The twentieth anniversary edition of this classic work--the bestselling golf instruction book of all time and hailed as "the golfer's equivalent of The Elements of Style" (The New York Times)--includes a new introduction by a prominent golfer, twenty new illustrations, and never-before-published materials from the Penick family archives.
The most beloved golf book of all time, Harvey Penick's Little Red Book has become required reading for all players and fans of the game, from beginners to seasoned pros. The legendary Harvey Penick, whom Sports Illustrated called the "Socrates of the golf world," began his golfing career as a caddie in Austin, Texas, at the age of eight, and over the course of nearly a century worked with an amazing array of champions. In this classic book, which is named for the red notebook he always kept, Penick's simple, direct, practical wisdom pares away the hypertechnical jargon that's grown up around the golf swing, and lets all golfers, whatever their level, play their best. This twentieth-anniversary edition features a treasure trove of rare images from the Penick family archives, commemorates Penick's lasting achievement with a moving new foreword by 2012 Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III--whose father learned the game under Penick's tutelage--and reminds golfers everywhere to "take dead aim."Author Biography
Harvey Penick was a renowned golf pro who began his career at the Austin (Texas) Country Club as a caddie. Though he coached golf at the University of Texas for thirty years, and worked with the likes of Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw, and Betsy Rawls, he never left the country club, where he continued to teach until his death in 1995. Bud Shrake, an avid golfer and the coauthor of all of Penick's books, died in 2009.

AWESOME FACTS ABOUT GOLF: I have intentionally selected a specific range of golf facts that I feel will not only help children to learn new information but more importantly, remember it. FUN LEARNING TOOL FOR ALL AGES: This book is designed to capture the imagination of everyone through the use of "WoW" trivia, cool photos and memory recall quiz. COOL & COLORFUL PICTURES: Each page contains a quality image relating to the subject in question. This helps the reader to match and recall the content. SHORT QUIZ GAME - POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT: No matter what the score is, everyone's a WINNER! The purpose of the short quiz at the end is to help check understanding, to cement the information and to provide a positive conclusion, regardless of the outcome. ************************************** Hi and a very warm welcome to "GOLF". I'm one of those people who loves to hear about extraordinary facts or trivia about anything. They seem to be one of the few things my memory can actually recall. I'm not sure if it's to do with the shock or the "WoW" factor but for some reason my brain seems to store it for a later date. I've always been a great believer in that whatever the subject, if a good teacher can inspire you and hold your attention, then you'll learn! Now I'm not a teacher but the system I've used in previous publications on Amazon seems to work well, particularly with children. This edition includes a selection of those "WoW" facts combined with some pretty awesome pictures, if I say so myself! At the end there is a short "True or False" quiz to check memory recall and to help cement some of the information included in the book. Don't worry though, it's a bit of fun but at the same time, it helps to check understanding. If you're an expert on this subject then it's unlikely you will find anything new here but if, like me, you enjoy learning unusual facts with interesting pictures then I think you'll love it. Enjoy the show! Matt.
Author Biography
Matthew Harper was born in 1965, Surrey, United Kingdom. He is married with two young children and is a great believer in using images combined with interesting facts to help both inspire and educate. His simple philosophy, drawn from his own experiences, is that a teacher who holds the attention of the class without the need of strict discipline or blackmail is indeed a rarity. His books are designed to help young children learn through participation, by checking understanding and offering encouragement. Matthew found that for him personally, this was the only way he could retain information at an early age. Children generally love to be rewarded when they get something right and by using a short quiz at the end of each publication, Matthew ensures that every reader finishes a winner!

Most people have this grave misconception about golf. Most of them think that it is the easiest sport to play. Think about it. You just hit a small ball with a club across the course and drive around in a cool electric cart. However, there is more to the game of golf than just that. It is actually one of the most technical sports in the world, and it all starts with the right equipment, particularly the clubs. There is a reason why golfers have to lug around a huge bag full of clubs every time they have to play. Golfers have to play in different terrains, and they need to use a different club depending on where their balls fall. There are clubs that are best for when the ball fell on a patch of long grass. Others, on the other hand, are useful for when the unfortunate happens and the ball lands in a sand trap. You can also find clubs that players can use when they find their ball in a shallow puddle. If you want to become the best golfer that you can be, you need to have the right set of golf clubs. In this book, you will be learning all about the different kinds of golf clubs. You will learn what they are usually used for, how each one of them behaves, and how to use them properly to get the desired results. As an extra, you will also receive an easy training guide so you can improve your golf form and the strength of your swing. There are also a couple of quick guides about cleaning and maintaining your golf clubs so you can use them for many more years to come. In addition, you will get a bonus chapter, which tackles the dos and don'ts of buying secondhand golf clubs. Most beginners cannot afford to buy brand new golf clubs so secondhand gear is the next best thing. Of course, you can't expect to become an expert right after you read this book. You will need months of practice before you can even play a decent round of golf without throwing your clubs across the green, but at least you will have a better understanding about your gear. If you know how your clubs work, then you are already well on your way towards becoming a decent golfer, and you will start enjoying the game the way it was meant to be played.

Golf is a powerful strategy for learning, playing and enjoying golf. The programme is developmental, as opposed to clinical or problem solving in nature. You learn about and develop your inner mental skills, skills which require you to 'go inside yourself' to that part of your mind where you foster behaviours which promote good performance.
Creative use of imagery makes it possible to re-program the software of your brain and rid yourself of unwanted behaviours and beliefs, which get in the way of good performance.
Discover how easy it is to:
- Achieve active relaxation
- Use mental imagery to learn and improve your game
- Develop positive thoughts and behaviour patterns
- Focus completely on the shot you are about to make
- Increase your chances of having and then sustaining peak performance
This book will give you the tools to create peak performance in golf and in other sports you play. It has a parallel and perhaps a more important goal: to help you develop a lifestyle that is healthy, and behaviours which lead to peak wellness.
Includes a link to free audio download of exercises.

Whether you want to (1) learn basic golf techniques, (2) improve your consistency, or (3) master the mental part of the game, this book will teach you everything you need to know.
Do missed putts drive you crazy?
Stop doing the same thing while expecting different results. If your game is not improving, you can keep on flailing away OR you can start applying proven strategies to improve your game. I know there are a lot of contradictory opinions on various aspects of golf that can easily have your head spinning in confusion. What I've done in this book is to wade through all the knowledge out there and then distilled it into the best advice possible in the form of straightforward instructions anybody can follow to start seeing steady improvements in their golf game.
Would you like to see your game steadily improve?
Start learning the best ideas which can work in harmony to lower your scores. I've explained why each strategy I've included is useful and effective. Some of the simplest instructions, when followed consistently, can have the greatest impact on your game. So go ahead: as you discover each principle, start to apply it to your golfing, and take note of how your playing improves!
Get the perfect swing.
Because you are a unique person, your perfect swing is going to be unique to you. Instead of burdening you with a plethora of minute details that nobody can pay attention to all at once, I've boiled it down to a few key ideas that will help you greatly improve your swing. You can train yourself to concentrate on these simple items as you prepare for and execute your swing. What I share in this book is designed to help your mind and body work in unison to find the swing that is optimal for you.
Balance the technical versus the intuitive.
All golfers fall somewhere along the lines between technical players and those who rely mainly on instinct. While, for each person you interview, you will get at least one (and sometimes more than one!) opinion regarding which style of play is better, I have taken a mixed position. This allows me to share with you the best of both extremes, equipping you to play both technically and intuitively to your greatest advantage.
What Will You Learn About Golf?
- How to boost your putting precision.
- Tips that will have you hitting harder and with greater accuracy.
- Practical instruction to increase your concentration and focus to new heights.
- The best conditioning and nutrition strategies for enhancing your game.

by Lex McMillan (Author)
Having recently retired, the author set out on a cross-country adventure following the Lewis and Clark Trail, playing 16 rounds of golf at some of the highest-rated public courses along the way, and talking with folks he met about their perspectives on America: what they most appreciated, what worried them, and what they would change if they had a magic wand.
This engaging narrative includes reviews of historic and less well-known golf courses, reflections on the state of our country that are rooted in pivotal moments of the Lewis and Clark expedition, as well as the history and development of various communities along the way. Topics include the American immigrant experience, our genocidal treatment of the indigenous people, the rise of the "rural cemetery" movement in the mid-19th century, the meaning of Mount Rushmore, the ghost of sex trafficking in Williston, Montana, as well as deep dives into St. Louis, the two Kansas Cities, and Astoria, Oregon.
In addition to realizing a long-held dream, his journey reveals that despite all the troubling features of American life, past and present, we can continue to be a beacon of hope for the hopeless across the globe. He was on the road for 40 days and logged more than 9700 miles before returning to his home in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

This book celebrates the beauty, tradition, and variety of golf across the Carolinas, featuring eighteen beloved courses as experienced by the walking golfer. One of golf's earliest appeals was its health-giving benefits, with players walking some four miles over varied terrain, making stamina and endurance an important part of the sport. Most recreational players today choose motorized carts. But Lee Pace believes that the slower pace and on-the-ground view associated with walking gives one an opportunity to savor the experience, understand the nuances of course design and landscape architecture, and appreciate the small touches that make our region's best clubs and courses special. The Carolinas are a cradle for the game in the United States, making walking its courses an ideal way to connect past and present.
Attractively illustrated with full-color photography, each essay tells the story of a course and how it is experienced on foot. Guiding readers around fabled courses like Pinehurst No. 2 and new classics like Kiawah Island's Ocean Course, private clubs and municipal courses, resort destinations and urban gems, Pace reflects on legendary course architects, famous tournaments, notable players, ties between the game's founders and the Carolinas, and more. Whether you're a committed traditionalist or new to the game, this book will inspire you to slow down and enjoy the best of what golf has to offer.

Herman "Hank" Fins-Winston was a pro golfer destined for greatness. Now he lives in a condominium on the thirteenth fairway of one of heaven's glorious courses - a fact he finds surprising and amusing, since for one reason or another, a fair percentage of golfers never make it to paradise. Hank is having the time of his afterlife until he's summoned one idyllic morning to play a round with the Almighty. It seems that God is having some trouble with His game. As they play the heavenly courses, both in paradise and back on earth, Hank comes to realize that what began as a golf lesson has become a spiritual journey.

This is the story of a journey--from heaven to earth and back again. For Herman "Hank" Fins-Winston, that journey begins one idyllic morning--as all mornings are in heaven--when he is summoned to play a round of golf with God. Yes, "that" God. The Almighty. The one with the capital "G." And yes, Hank really is in heaven, a fact he finds truly amusing because, for one reason or another, a fair percentage of golfers never make it to paradise, and because he himself was no angel in his former life.
It seems that God is having some trouble with His (or Her: God is funny that way) putting game, and believes that Hank, who was a golf pro on earth, can fix His case of "the yips." But as they play the heavenly courses both in paradise and back on earth, Hank comes to realize that what began as a golf lesson has become much more, and that rather than teaching God about the game, it is he himself who is learning the lessons--about fearing failure, about second chances, about the connectedness of all living things, about not taking the next breath for granted, and about our God-given ability to improve ourselves--one stroke at a time.
Funny and uplifting, "Golfing with God" is a beautifully realized novel that takes the reader on one ordinary man's most unexpected passage.
