Emotional Intelligence is necessary for success in everything. When you are able to manage your emotions, you are in control-and not being taken over by the demons of stress! On the golf course or in life, those who attain success and mastery are those who are able to manage their emotions when circumstances are not so cordial. Easier said than done, right? Well, the connections golf-pro Charlotte McGinnis and co-author Gene Bogart make are nothing short of revelatory, and put the power of golf-and life-into your own hands. Full of wisdom and spiritual insight, McGinnis and Bogart take the teachings of the world-renowned text A Course in Miracles and apply them to the game of golf with staggering results. A Golf Course in Miracles is not the kind of book that needs to be read in one continuous flow. It can, to be sure; but it can also be read a little here, a little there, as it is in many ways a 'series of essays' on various topic areas of golf, and life, and the nature of the universe itself. It is intended to be lighthearted-even humorous at times-and is uplifting, motivational, and inspiring throughout. Divided into twenty-seven "holes," the authors break down the mental checklist of all golfers-a list that mirrors the same thought processes of life-and teach a new way of seeing and experiencing that is full of peace and understanding. When applied, they create an aura of calm no golf ball-or any other outside influence-can penetrate. With over fifty combined years of studying, teaching, and applying spiritual and holistic practices, McGinnis and Bogart use golf as a metaphor for life in a book that is surely "not for golfers only." Their message: Peace is always a choice that is available at any time-and the skills and tools taught in the book are meant to create a more serene and joyful journey, not merely lower your handicap. In fact, if you're not careful, A Golf Course in Miracles might inspire as much change in your life as it does in your golf game! -- from the FOREWORD written by GARY RENARD, bestselling author of The Disappearance of the Universe and Your Immortal Reality: "If, like me, you love the Course, it will be easy for you to love this fun, clever, and profound book, A Golf Course in Miracles. If you play golf, your game will never be the same, only better. And if you're reading this book for the humor and the wisdom, you won't be disappointed. Thanks, Gene and Charlotte, for the cool book, and for reminding us that A Course in Miracles is a happy form of spirituality!" -- from GREGG BRADEN, New York Times bestselling author of The Divine Matrix, and Fractal Time: "In A Golf Course in Miracles, golf-pro Charlotte McGinnis and co-author Gene Bogart masterfully remind us that powerful lessons await in the seemingly insignificant moments of life - on the golf course, classroom, or living room. With laser-like precision and a down-to-earth style this book is about you, me, our world, and the rich lessons found in everyday experience." -- from MARCUS GILLETTE, acclaimed author and presenter (with wife Sheila) of The Teachings of THEO: "Charlotte and Gene have delivered a wonderful gift... clear, funny, and highly insightful. As a golfer, I absolutely loved the metaphors in this gem of a book!" -- from GARY WIREN, Ph.D. - Pro Golfer, Teacher, Author, TV Host - Member: PGA Hall of Fame: "If you wish to take the tension out of your game, 'A Golf Course in Miracles' gives you the game plan!"

West Scotland is so close to the north east of Ireland that each country can be seen from high ground in the other. A mere 24 kilometers or 15 miles separates the two coasts at their closest. It is not surprising therefore, that similarities in sport, language and culture are to be found in both countries. Scotland received the Irish game of hurling and renamed it shinty; they received the gaelic language and called it gallic, and accepted christianity from the Irish monks. After the Ulster Plantation of 1608, the large flow of Scots into Ulster brought presbyterianism and golf to Ireland.400 years is a long time and that's how long golf has been played in Ireland (and in England). That more ancient stick and ball game played in Ireland called hurling helped the Irish to readily accept golf. It took another two and a half centuries before the first golf clubs as we know them emerged in Ireland. The Irish clubs then established the Golfing Union of Ireland to administer their game. This was the first such national organisation (the R&A is not a national body) in the world and was the model followed by other countries. Ireland was also the first to introduce a coherent, logical, nationwide handicap system.Any activity undertaken by humankind never takes place in a vacuum; the historical context has a substantial say in it. So it was that one of the greatest catastrophes in the then known world- the Great Irish Famine (1845-1847), was the principal reason why today a large Irish diaspora is scattered around the globe, in England, Australia and especially America. For various reasons, the Irish and their descendants who ended up in the U.S.A. found sport to be one social and professional activity for which they had a particular talent, and which was a sure way to climb the social ladder. Irish names are to be found among the star performers in early professional boxing, in baseball, in athletics (including the Olympics) and of relevance here, in golf. Until the last twenty years, more Irish names appeared on the U.S. Open Golf Trophy than on the British one!The following pages explore what the Irish brought to golf at home and abroad.

Bill Spiller was forty-seven when he was forced by desperate finances to caddie at the Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles. One day Spiller was caddying for a member who became outraged by Spiller's stories of inequities and suffering during his golfing career. The golfer urged Spiller to write California's attorney general, who later ordered the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) to cease its discrimination. In 1961 the "Caucasian race" clause was deleted from the PGA constitution. This was an historic decision that gave black golfers the chance to compete at the highest level in the sport. Golf has long been the domain of white men. During the twentieth century, however, African American pioneers such as Lee Elder, Howard Wheeler, and Charlie Sifford broke down the barriers for black golfers who wanted to play, and win, as equals with white golfers. A Course of Their Own looks at golf from the perspectives of these men, who had courage as well as remarkable skills. It tells the stories of their struggles, their bravery, and their passion for the game and puts their lives and contributions into historical perspective.

Many activities have their must-do lists. For example, hillwalkers try to 'bag' all the Munros in Scotland. Colin Ramsay decided that it was time golfers had a similar list and so the idea for this book was born.
It details every golf course currently available to play in the nation where the game was invented. From the glorious coastal links to the stunning parkland courses that can be found in the interior, from the challenge of great Championship courses to the fun of nine-hole short courses, it covers it all.
As you play the courses you can record your score, who you were playing with and those memorable moments that made your round special.
The book also includes advice to help your game, interesting articles and beautiful photographs of courses from across the country.
This is the book every golfer will love.

Craig Cantwell is well known as a journeyman millionaire and 'the best professional golfer who has not won a major.' His successful life as a tour pro is shattered when he is suspended from the PGA Tour. Without a place to compete and with a personal life tangled with drama, Craig has to find his way back to a life he knows. His fight is not with the scions of the tour, the public, or the scores of great golfers who would be his opponents. He has to prevail over the toughest of adversaries - himself. "18" beautifully tells the story of Cantwell and those in his life: Rachelle Keys, the mother of Craig's daughter and a heroic FBI Agent. Kelly Keys, the new 'IT' girl of golf. Thomas Kincaid, agent and lawyer to the rich and scandalous. And Seth Reede, the personal development guru with a past more shocking than any fallen hero. Far more involved than just a tale of athletic triumph, "18" is a story of forgiveness, truth, courage, and redemption.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Globe-trotting golfer Tom Coyne has finally come home. And he's ready to play all of it. After playing hundreds of courses overseas in the birthplace of golf, Coyne, the bestselling author of A Course Called Ireland and A Course Called Scotland, returns to his own birthplace and delivers a "heartfelt, rollicking ode to golf...[as he] describes playing golf in every state of the union, including Alaska: 295 courses, 5,182 holes, 1.7 million total yards" (The Wall Street Journal). In the span of one unforgettable year, Coyne crisscrosses the country in search of its greatest golf experience, playing every course to ever host a US Open, along with more than two hundred hidden gems and heavyweights, visiting all fifty states to find a better understanding of his home country and countrymen. Coyne's journey begins where the US Open and US Amateur got their start, historic Newport Country Club in Rhode Island. As he travels from the oldest and most elite of links to the newest and most democratic, Coyne finagles his way onto coveted first tees (Shinnecock, Oakmont, Chicago GC) between rounds at off-the-map revelations, like ranch golf in Eastern Oregon and homemade golf in the Navajo Nation. He marvels at the golf miracle hidden in the sand hills of Nebraska and plays an unforgettable midnight game under bright sunshine on the summer solstice in Fairbanks, Alaska. More than just a tour of the best golf the United States has to offer, Coyne's quest connects him with hundreds of American golfers, each from a different background but all with one thing in common: pride in welcoming Coyne to their course. Trading stories and swing tips with caddies, pros, and golf buddies for the day, Coyne adopts the wisdom of one of his hosts in Minnesota: the best courses are the ones you play with the best people. But, in the end, only one stop on Coyne's journey can be ranked the Great American Golf Course. Throughout his travels, he invites golfers to debate and help shape his criteria for judging the quintessential American course. Should it be charmingly traditional or daringly experimental? An architectural showpiece or a natural wonder? Countless conversations and gut instinct lead him to seek out a course that feels bold and idealistic, welcoming yet imperfect, with a little revolutionary spirit and a damn good hot dog at the turn. He discovers his long-awaited answer in the most unlikely of places. Packed with fascinating tales from American golf history, comic road misadventures, illuminating insights into course design, and many a memorable round with local golfers and celebrity guests alike, A Course Called America is "a delightful, entertaining book even nongolfers can enjoy" (Kirkus Reviews).Author Biography

There has never been a golfer to rival Arnold Palmer. To the legions of golf fans around the world, Palmer is a charismatic hero, the winner of sixty-one tournaments on the PGA Tour and still going strong on the Senior PGA Tour. But behind the legend, there is the private Palmer--a man of wit, compassion, loyalty, and true grit in the face of personal adversity.
Writing with the humor and candor that are as much his trademark as his unique golf swing, Palmer narrates the deeply moving story of his life both on and off the links. He recounts the loving relationship he shared with his father, "Deacon" Palmer, the course superintendent and head professional at the Latrobe Country Club where young Arnie developed his game, his friendships and rivalries with golf greats, his enduringly happy marriage with Winnie, his legendary charges to triumph and titanic disasters, and his valiant battle against cancer and remarkable recovery. Arnold Palmer has lived one of the great sporting lives of the twentieth century. Now, with the help of acclaimed golf writer James Dodson, he has created one of the great sports autobiographies of our time.Front Jacket

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * "One of the best golf books this century." --Golf Digest From the author of A Course Called Home comes a heartfelt and humorous golf travel memoir that celebrates his quest to play on every links course in Scotland, the birthplace of the game he loves. For much of his adult life, bestselling author Tom Coyne has been chasing a golf ball around the globe. When he was in college, studying abroad in London, he entered the lottery for a prized tee time in Scotland, grabbing his clubs and jumping the train to St. Andrews as his friends partied in Amsterdam; later, he golfed the entirety of Ireland's coastline, chased pros through the mini-tours, and attended grueling Qualifying Schools in Australia, Canada, and Latin America. Yet, as he watched the greats compete, he felt something was missing. Then one day a friend suggested he attempt to play every links course in Scotland and qualify for the greatest championship in golf. The result is A Course Called Scotland, "a fast-moving, insightful, often funny travelogue encompassing the width of much of the British Isles" (GolfWeek), including St. Andrews, Turnberry, Dornoch, Prestwick, Troon, and Carnoustie. With his signature blend of storytelling, humor, history, and insight, Coyne weaves together his "witty and charming" (Publishers Weekly) journey to more than 100 legendary courses in Scotland with compelling threads of golf history and insights into the contemporary home of golf. As he journeys Scotland in search of the game's secrets, he discovers new and old friends, rediscovers the peace and power of the sport, and, most importantly, reaffirms the ultimate connection between the game and the soul. It is "a must-read" (Golf Advisor) rollicking love letter to Scotland and golf as no one has attempted it before.

by Bill Fields (Author)
Distinct among golf writers for having been born in Pinehurst, arguably America's golf capital, Bill Fields brings to life growing up during the 1960s and '70s in the Sandhills of North Carolina, where his early ties to the game were a springboard for a long, award-winning career chronicling it. A Quick Nine Before Dark is a richly detailed memoir: poignant sketches of a lost small-town world, introducing his blue-collar dad to golf; the culture shock and awe of a new arrival in 1980s New York City; an insider's vantage of an evolving golf media world. Fields interviewed a 15-year-old Tiger Woods and played 18 holes with Sam Snead when he was 84. Having walked Pinehurst's fairways as a tour-event standard bearer when he was a teen, Fields went on to photograph 40 major championships and has reported from twice that many as a fixture on the golf scene for four decades. A Quick Nine Before Dark is a vivid account of that journey and the charms and challenges along the way.
Author Biography
Born in Pinehurst, North Carolina in 1959, Bill Fields received the 2020 PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism from the PGA of America for contributions to golf, joining previous honorees including Herbert Warren Wind, Dan Jenkins, Jack Whitaker, Dave Kindred, and Dave Anderson. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Fields was a longtime senior editor at Golf World magazine and a senior editor at Golf Illustrated after stints as a newspaper sportswriter. He currently writes The Albatross, a golf newsletter, and has contributed articles to the New York Times, the Met Golfer, and ESPNW.com.
by Tom Stanton (Author)
Tom Stanton's Ty and The Babe tells of the incredible saga of baseball's fiercest rivals, the forging of a surprising friendship, and the battle for the 1941 Has-Beens Golf Championship
Early in the twentieth century, fate thrust a young Babe Ruth into the gleaming orbit of Ty Cobb. The resulting collision produced a dazzling explosion and a struggle of mythic magnitude. At stake was not just baseball dominance, but eternal glory and the very soul of a sport. For much of fourteen seasons, the Cobb-Ruth rivalry occupied both men and enthralled a generation of fans. Even their retirement from the ball diamond didn't extinguish it.

Praise for the Writing of Tom Stanton
DESIGN: More quotes TK
" Ruth and Cobb come together as never before in this charming story of rivalry and friendship. Stanton, a keen storyteller, has written a book that surprises and delights."
-- Jonathan Eig, author of "Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig"
" The wardrobe mistress of baseball history seems to have assigned the white hat to Babe Ruth and the black hat to Ty Cobb for all time. The Babe, the legendary Sultan of Swat, has become the patron saint of the sport, flamboyant and loud, larger than life, hail fellow well met, a character who hit mammoth home runs and wiped the runny noses of neighborhood urchins. Cobb has become the villain, foul mouthed and cantankerous, unliked and unloved by even his teammates. . . . Now Tom Stanton comes along to rearrange the roles in his terrific new book, "Ty and The Babe," which chronicles the relationship between the two baseball icons. He takes off the hats and tells us about the real people. And it all is great fun."
-- Leigh Montville, author of "The Big Bam"
" Wonderful! "Ty and The Babe" is rich, elegant, and powerful. Tom Stanton vividly brings back to life two rival sports icons in a rollicking tale filled with tension, humor, and warmth. It's fantastic."
-- Ernie Harwell, Hall of Fame broadcaster
" Frankly, "Ty and The Babe" had me hooked from the opening page, a thoroughly absorbing tale that has all the charm and elements of an unforgettable film-- the two greatest players from baseball's Golden Era, blood feuds, dueling rivals, brawling fans, mythologizing sportswriters and the consequences of a rapidly changing game . . . all capped off by a poignant golf match between a pair of fading titans. Tom Stanton has beautifully re-created the most romantic period of American sports, provided new and powerful insights into a pair of greatly misunderstood figures in Cobb and Ruth, and given baseball and golf fans everywhere something to cheer lustily about."
-- James Dodson, author of "Final Rounds" and "Ben Hogan: An American Life"
Author Biography

How to apply your Baseball mechanics, experience and sensibilities to Golf.
by John Charles Thomas Ph. D. (Author)
The Winning Weekend Warrior aspires to enhance the participation, enjoyment, and success of the reader in all sports. It focuses on strategy, tactics and the "mental game." As it turns out, many of the strategies, tactics and techniques for the psychology of sports are similar regardless of the sport. In fact, many of these same techniques are useful in business and other aspects of life as well. This book is valuable for several reasons. First when it comes to winning, there is much in common among all sports. In terms of the mental game, the commonalities outweigh the differences. In terms of the physical game, there are also great similarities in terms of preparation. Obviously, different sports require specific skills but these are largely improved due to correct practice in the specific sport. You can practice a sport such as golf or tennis for many years and hardly improve at all. Time alone is not enough. You need correct practice and this book can help you make sure you practice correctly. A second reason to read this book is that even if you concentrate on one or two sports, chances are that you will participate occasionally in others. You may be a scratch golfer or a tennis star but occasionally find yourself in a basketball or baseball game. Even if your own days of playing hockey, tackle football and soccer are over, you might volunteer to coach these sports for kids, neighbors, or grandkids. In such cases, this book will help you translate the skills you already have in your main sports into these other domains. As you may have noticed, this is not always easy to do. Perhaps you managed to watch the basketball player, Charles Barkley (career average 22.1 points per game) struggle mightily to become a so-so golfer. You can also apply much of the advice in this book to business and other aspects of life far beyond sports. A third reason to read this book is that thinking about what it takes to win in sports in general, will reveal additional insights helpful in your particular sport or sports. This is because I will ask you to look at sports through a different lens. Rather than look at baseball through a "baseball lens" and tennis through a "tennis lens" I will ask you to look at these sports through a more general lens. The fourth reason is that reading this book provides an excellent foundation for understanding and using the information you may find in sports-specific books including future books in this series. By learning a general framework for thinking about all sports, other advice and tips will make more sense and be easier to remember and apply. Fifth and finally, this is one of the few sports books written by a winning weekend warrior. I love competing in sports, but I have never been a professional athlete. Of course, you are tempted to read a book written by a world expert in a sport. Aren't we all? There are several problems trying to improve your performance based solely on books written by world class athletes. 1) There is probably no way you can keep your day job and keep to the kind of training schedule they have. 2) Most professional athletes are in their 20's and 30's. As you age, even if you keep fit, you may have to play differently compared to a professional athlete. 3) Most professional athletes have so much skill in their sport that they no longer consciously remember what the real issues are for beginners and intermediates. Many of these same limitations apply when we listen to athletes being interviewed by the press after an important victory (or defeat).
