A player who could hardly defend. A bleak soccer future as a bench-warmer. An athlete who lacked confidence in their game. Are you or a loved one enjoying soccer, but can't stand not being confident on how to defend? Do you or a child have a problem stopping the team from shooting? Are you a parent or player that would love to stop the dribble of each opponent but struggle even stopping the foot skills of one player? If any of these situations describe you, you are not alone. Coaches of soccer are good at having the team work together. Sadly, your abilities as an individual are often lost in the team's tactics unless you are the star player on the team. The coach lets the best player do as they please but every other player must do their job, even though the coach may not always teach exactly how to do that job. This is great when you are the favorite player, but more often than not you are just existing on the field and not really contributing to your team in the way you want to. Outcomes of applying the facts in this book:-Understand how to stop an attacker every time (plus a few mindsets to avoid).
-Learn the proper body positioning and placement in relation to the defender.
-Remove the toxic habits you need to break. Why does learning these things matter?
Well, building your knowledge grows your confidence. Self-esteem is key for any soccer player and building the belief in yourself and your child will allow them to play to the level you know they can play. You may think those are all well and great, but "how can a book really deliver on increasing the abilities of yourself, son, daughter, or team?" Excitingly, this book lays out step-by-step what you should work on and the most important keys to being able to perform on the field. Yes, other author's will fill up their pages with tips for various situations, but never really say which things to know are the most important and will make the biggest difference in your game. This book does exactly that. It is time for hours of Soccer Defending to finally pay off. Become the player, coach, or parent that changes every game from here on out. Whether known as football or, as in the US, soccer; the 'beautiful game' is the most popular sport in the world. The best players earn millions of dollars per year, and the greatest clubs are icons in their regions. Children love putting down a couple of jerseys and having a kick around. It is, globally, the team sport that has the greatest public participation and, at the highest level such as the World Cup, top leagues and cup finals, matches are watched live by tens of thousands of cheering fans. Support is only limited by stadium size, with tens or even hundreds of millions following their team on TV.
It is therefore no surprise that so many people love to play the game, and want to become better at it. Youngsters dream of becoming the next Pele, Messi, Maradona or Ronaldo. This book offers coaches and players an insight into how to become a better soccer player. There are chapters on the role of the individual in this team game, and the role of the team in a sport lit up by the brilliance of individuals.
There are drills listed to help the player and his side. Indeed, it is drills that lead to players becoming experts, as good as they can be. Drills take the individual components of soccer and allow practice in a pressure free, or pressure controlled, environment.
What you very much do not want is to be learning new concepts under the pressure of the examination hall. That is the place to show what you can do, not try out risky ideas.
In many ways, sport is the same. For soccer, the examination is the match; learning the skills is like gaining your understanding of Shakespeare; applying those skills is automatic in the chaos of the game. Those exercises you worked on in training ensure that you are fit enough to survive the game at your best.
And just like a piece of great literature, so a great soccer performance is made up of separate elements, which combine to produce the art form that is the 'beautiful game.' Just as you could examine character, plot, language and metaphor when studying 'Macbeth', a great performance in soccer is made up of control, passing, shooting, defending and teamwork.
Those elements can be broken down, practiced and perfected during drills. The drill allows for experimentation; failure and error does not matter. Indeed, we learn through our mistakes. There is less pressure during a drill, so time can be spent getting the individual skills and movements right. A good coach can help a player focus on areas of weakness. Pressure can be introduced slowly, and in a controlled way, ratcheted up to recreate conditions more like those in the match situation.
During practice sessions, often younger (and probably older!) players long for the 'game.' 'Can we play a match now?' is the sort of request coaches of younger players will recognize readily. And that is fine, a little match - perhaps one that reinforces the skills on which the session focuses on, makes a fun and useful end to a coaching session. But drills are crucial in helping players to become the best they can be.
These skill sessions can be focused on the individual, working on technique perhaps in groups of two to four; they can also be larger group drills, or whole team activities which help mutual understanding and coordination.

Coaching soccer is demanding. Impossible to perfect, it requires a broad knowledge of many performance areas including technique, tactics, psychology and the social aspects of human development. The first two components are covered in detail in many texts - but Soccer Brain uniquely offers a comprehensive guide to developing the latter two - player mindsets and winning teams.
The environment that a coach creates, and the relationships formed with players, is the bedrock of performance and achievement. Coaches who are able to deliver students of the game, and who are able to help players execute skills and tactics under pressure are the future leaders of the world's most loved sport.
Soccer Brain teaches coaches to train players to compete with confidence, with commitment, with intelligence, and as part of a team. The positive messages from each chapter of Soccer Brain help coaches to develop players through patience, repetition, reinforcement, re-appraisal and high value relationships.
Soccer Brain is for the no limits coach. It's for the coach who is passionate about developing players and building a winning team. This is not a traditional soccer coaching book filled with drills or tactics or playing patterns. This book is about getting the very best from you, the coach, and helping you develop a coaching culture of excellence and world class football mindsets. This book is for Soccer Coaches of all levels and experience.
Written by Dan Abrahams, the best-selling author of "Soccer Tough", it aims to show coaches how their approach to coaching is as much about their relationships with players and the coaching environment as it is about tactics, fitness or strength. By utilising the information in this book - coaches will be able to create an optimum coaching world that creates confident, committed, and mentally strong players. More book details are available on the Bennion Kearny website.

Over twenty million Americans are playing the great game of soccer. This guide is for their coaches; it will help both the new and the experienced youth and high school coaches develop complete players, those who master the three fundamental elements of tech-nique, tactics, and function. There are many technique books on the market, and a few tactical books, but none which attempt to integrate technique, tactics, and function with accompanying game activities. As in state-of-the-art coaching for all sports, this integration is best developed through a system of progressions. Building upon a logical progression of exercises, activities, and shortsided games, this guide will help the coach to apply the princi-ples of play to the game of soccer and the development of soccer players. Too often these principles are overlooked by coaches; yet they are the very foundation of the game! Once a coach can view game action from this point of view he is capable of making important/relevant suggestions that relate to training and general principles. This facilitates player growth and game results.

Although the game of soccer is known by many names around the world--football, fútbol, Fu ball, voetbal--the sport is a universal language. Throughout the past century, governments have used soccer to further their diplomatic aims through a range of actions including boycotts, carefully orchestrated displays at matches, and more. In turn, soccer organizations have leveraged their power over membership and tournament decisions to play a role in international relations.
In Soccer Diplomacy, an international group of experts analyzes the relationship between soccer and diplomacy. Together, they investigate topics such as the use of soccer as a tool of nation-state-based diplomacy, soccer as a non-state actor, and the relationship between soccer and diplomatic actors in subnational, national, and transnational contexts. They also examine the sport as a conduit for representation, communication, and negotiation.
Drawing on a wealth of historical examples, the contributors demonstrate that governments must frequently address soccer as part of their diplomatic affairs. They argue that this single sport--more than the Olympics, other regional multisport competitions, or even any other sport--reveals much about international relations, how states attempt to influence foreign views, and regional power dynamics.

As the legendary soccer player Pele once said, "Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
Soccer is the world's most popular sport, a global language understood from Europe to the Americas to Asia and Africa. Helping young players is vitally important if they are to get maximum enjoyment and benefit from their soccer. And it is massive fun for the coach who volunteers their time and their talent. Especially if those children in their team are at the best age to learn, from eight to twelve. Old enough to concentrate for long periods and co-ordinated enough to learn complex skills and techniques, young enough to retain enthusiasm and excitement for their sport.
Chest Dugger's Soccer Drills for Kids Ages 8-12 provides a season long training programme, tackling all the key skills a young soccer player needs to learn. The ingredients of soccer are each covered either in their own, bespoke chapter, or as a part of another section of the book: passing, shooting, dribbling, learning about space, defending (in the context of other skills) and so forth. All of these ingredients are covered keeping in mind the nuances that relate to kids in this age. In addition there are chapters on mental health and well-being, including tips on working with young people who are neuro-diverse. Physical fitness is covered but in a practical way which maintains and enhances the natural fitness most kids enjoy. At the same time the chapter utilises the opportunity to build on this in ways which develop other soccer-based attributes as well. Tactics are examined, because children aged eight to twelve are beginning to understand the greater complexities of the game that this aspect brings, and which will help their own enjoyment of the sport. However, tactics are introduced in a simplified way, one which will improve their pleasure in playing soccer and not detract from their own acquisition of vital skills and techniques.
There is also a chapter on fun games which use soccer skills in different settings, and provides the variety children love. The book is presented in simple chapters each containing drills, tips or activities. The consistent format helps coaches understand the suggested drills, and use them as a starting point to develop their own exercises which will address the training needs of their own team. Diagrams accompany drills, and are simple to follow, with clear two-dimensional plans to aid clarity.
This book is aimed at coaches of boys and girls, or mixed teams. It is suitable with all ability ranges and each drill contains a useful guide as to the best ages with which to use the exercise, where appropriate. But it is also ideal for parents and relations looking to learn a little more about the wonderful game of soccer. It is a useful reference for players, young and older, and a great central resource for clubs. Even the most experienced of coaches sometimes benefits from a new idea, or a different way of approaching a training need. Soccer Drills for Kids Ages 8-12 provides a wealth of examples of ways to help our young players.
So, if you want to give your young players the competitive advantage they need to succeed on the field, order your copy of Soccer Drills for Kids Ages 8-12 today. With this book as your guide, you'll be able to create a dynamic and successful team that your players will love being a part of. As Pele says, success takes hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice - but with the right tools and training, your young players can achieve greatness.

This book takes an in-depth look at nine of the most popular modern soccer formations used today. Each formation is explained in all the phases of the game, and ready to use training sessions are provided for teaching the formations. It does no good to teach defending shape in a low-block, if you ignore training defending in the middle, and attacking thirds of the field. If you teach attacking in the attacking third, but neglect to teach the build-up play from the back, what are you really teaching? If you are a ball possession oriented team, the coach should understand that it takes between 15-25 passes to transition from building up the attack, to complete attacking organization shape, in the attacking 1/3. This means the team must be instructed on how the overall shape will change during the 15-25 pass build up, and how the team shape will transition and change if the ball is lost. The coach must teach the formation in all the phases of play, the players should understand the formation, the game model and their exact responsibility in all phases of play. Ultimately, formations are simply starting points, it is up to the coach to create the game model and tactics, filling in all the blanks. Formations serve as the general structure, like an Artists blank canvas, as the bulk of the work is yet to come. The old saying, "the devil is in the details", couldn't be more true, especially when speaking about formations. Hopefully this book will provide you with some valuable ideas when it comes to coaching formations, and you can take those ideas to become a more effective coach. The major European soccer leagues, used around 17 different formations, in the 2017-2018 season. The leagues with the widest variety of formations were, the German Bundesliga, and the Italian Serie A, using 15 different formations each. The most conservative league was the French Ligue 1, with just 9 formations used. By far, the most popular formations used were, the 4-4-2 (22% of all games), 4-2-3-1 (21% of all games) and the 4-3-3 (13% of all games). A four-person defense was featured in 75% of all formations, while a three-person defense was featured in 19% of formations.

Soccer Training Box Set: 3 Books in 1
Book 1: Soccer Analytics
Analytics are playing an increasing role in the world of soccer. The days of gut instinct representing the main tactic in a game are passing, and a more calculated approach is being applied to coaching and playing.
Book 2: Soccer Drills
A soccer game is made up of multiple elements.
Book 3. Soccer Offense
This book will look at offensive plays. It will offer insight to coaches, players and supporters, young and old, and provide drills and analysis that can both help us to better understand the game and produce higher quality in attacking moves ourselves, or with our teams.

If you are NOT interested in dribbling the other team or teaching others how to use foot skills to get the ball in the net, this book is NOT for you. With game-proven methods to get more goals against any team, this is your manual for dribbling success! How defenses think and react during a game is not easily understood... or is it? Through countless hours of practice, training, and experience, soccer's elite have shown consistent patterns of in-game skills that when applied, will lead to predictable outcomes - more goals, more assists, and more wins! The current soccer books on the market teach about general knowledge of infrequent game situations without the clear steps to use skills to quickly get past players on the other team. This book is for players that need the tips, tricks, tweaks, and techniques to increase the number of defenders he or she can successfully dribble. In this book, there are well over 100 tips, including what skills to use in each situation and wasteful moves that should be avoided, from breaking down the many types of shot fakes, to how to attack a defender based on his or her stance. This book will help you become the MVP on your team. When many coaches' advice for dribbling is to do a scissor, consider passing more, and hope for the best, this book stands out on delivering the steps to turn any player into an unstoppable dribbler. Every topic is explained to answer the question, "How can I develop a system to get past a defender to make it easier for me or a teammate to score in a game?" Learn what coaches do not teach, not because they don't care, but because they just don't know how to improve a player's confidence and abilities to get past the other team. Often, coaches only emphasize the team's abilities to pass, while giving no time to the dribbling skills of each individual. It is just as essential to develop the players within the system as it is to strengthen the squad itself. Who this book is for:-The defender who lacks the confidence to control the ball in the backfield or who wants to make the transition from defense to offense.
-The midfielder who finds themselves passing often because they feel like they can't beat a defender.
-The forward who doesn't create the space to be able to take at least 5 shots per game.
-The parent who loves their child, but hates to see them struggle with a lack of self-esteem from not being able to dribble a defender.
-The coach that knows their squad can succeed if their players' attacking foot skills, shot fakes, and awareness on how to outsmart defenders was improved through increased IQ. Outcomes of applying the facts in this book:
-Learn how to create enough space to get a shot on target.
-Know which move to use when you are being defended.
-Ensure that you are using moves that will work every time. This book gives every player the ability to (1) beat a defender 1-on-1 (2) lead your team to victory and (3) develop the confidence of an amazing soccer player! This book has the facts that will empower every youth player, trainer, mom, and dad who cares and wants more. It is time for the countless hours of PRACTICE to finally pay off. Become the player, coach, or parent that changes every game from here on out. Beat more defenders today by clicking BUY NOW.

This collection of incisive articles gives a leading team of international philosophers a free kick toward exploring the complex and often hidden contours of the world of soccer. What does it really mean to be a fan (and why should we count Aristotle as one)? Why do great players such as Cristiano Ronaldo count as great artists (up there alongside Picasso, one author argues)? From the ethics of refereeing to the metaphysics of bent (like Beckham) space-time, this book shows soccer fans and philosophy buffs alike new ways to appreciate and understand the world's favorite sport.

In recent years, the systematic study of football has demonstrated the importance of set pieces, regardless of the level and gender of the participants or the tournament they are playing in, both for the goal scoring and the final result of the match. Despite their importance, there appears to be a gap in the contemporary football/soccer literature, which this book hopes to fill.
It aims to take a holistic approach to the subject, providing scientific knowledge as well as the theoretical background that every football coach should possess regarding set pieces. Importantly, the book examines both the offensive and defensive function of the team in set pieces, while emphasis is also placed on preparation for the next stage, namely the offensive or defensive transition.
At the same time, however, the book offers a large number of routines (drills) that coaches can incorporate into their training sessions to effectively prepare their players in practice. For a better understanding of these routines, the book is accompanied by animations that can be viewed on the mobile/tablet by scanning the QRCODE.

Two leading sports authorities explore the culture of soccer around the world, considering the sport as a means to better understand a society's past, present, and future.
How popular is soccer worldwide? Here's one indicator: 3.2 billion people--nearly half of the planet's population--tuned in to watch the 2010 World Cup on television. Soccer matches attract a gargantuan number of fans from around the globe due to the popularity of the sport itself but also because of the nationalism it inspires and the entertainment spectacle of the big games. Distinguished authors and sports authorities, Charles Parrish and John Nauright, examine how soccer impacts societies worldwide by shaping national identities, providing common ground for diplomatic issues, and forging economic and social development. This one-volume geographic guide studies the places in which soccer has a major impact, examining each region's teams, major tournaments, key players, and international performance. The authors organize the book geographically by region and country, with entries reviewing the history of the sport and cultural impact on the area. Each profile concludes with fascinating game-based statistics, such as winners of major tournaments and top goal scorers. The book covers 20 countries including England, Brazil, Egypt, the United States, Cameroon, and Korea.Author Biography

Game intelligence in team sports is hard to quantify, as top level players are noticed for their exceptional ability to read the game, anticipate the next play, and find solutions on the field. It is very difficult to isolate a single action, and then attribute it to game intelligence, but when we look at a player's overall ability, it can generally be categorized it into two parts. First, the ability to strategize and make intelligent situational decisions on the field, and second, the carrying out of those decisions with technical skill and speed. The foundation of game intelligence is found in part one; the decision-making and strategy component, but technical and physical skill, also play a part in decision-making. When I talk about game intelligence with soccer coaches, the majority of them do not want to hear about scientific studies, data and abstract theories. Coaches want logical and realistic training methods that work, which can be incorporated into their regular practices. This is why connecting the dots of game intelligence, with logical training methods is so important. For a number of reasons, I believe the most effective and direct way to develop game intelligence, is through game based trainings. These are the types of trainings where players are constantly playing, stoppages are limited, and coaches tend to speak to individual players, without stopping the game.
