Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Health - Sport - Kinematics and Training Theory, grade: 9.0/10.0, Universidad Europea de Madrid (Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid), course: Master in Talent Identification and Development in Soccer, language: English, abstract: This paper will demonstrate a long term athlete development programme based on a four dimensional approach (tactical, technical, physical and psycho-social). A one dimensional approach in isolation would be unrealistic and detrimental to football development. The modern game is rich in intensity, is multi-skilled, a contact sport and requires a quick thought-process. Therefore, a four dimensional approach will be used to combat these main pillars. The information will be based upon a situation of an Academy Manager to develop elite players for the first team. The goal will be to develop at least 3 youth players for the first team every 2 seasons. The club which this paper is based on will follow the philosophy of developing players for the first team as opposed to a club that is willing to spend money on players who are already established or buying already talented young players from other clubs rather than developing their own. Extensive research will be taken from books, academic papers, lectures, my own experiences and other reliable sources to gain maximal knowledge. Furthermore, each age group will be throughly discussed by analysing the potential benefits and fragilities of each age group, and also looking on how best to deal with these issues to obtain the maximal potential of each player. Finally, the curriculum advances in an age appropriate manner to show a clear progression through the age groups into adulthood.

At two high schools on opposite sides of town, girls showed up for the first day of soccer practice, and everyone thought they knew how the season would go. West Sycamore's team had always been pretty average. No one expected that to change. East Sycamore's team was the best in the state, with a lineup full of All-Stars. Anything less than a state championship would have been a disappointment. But in sports, things rarely go according to plan. There were new arrivals. There were injuries. There were red cards and penalties and fights in the locker room. Boyfriends and girlfriends and deaths in the family. Add it all together and you get a season people are still talking about 10 years later. This is the story of that season, the greatest girls soccer season that never actually happened, told through interviews with the young women who didn't actually live it.

If coaches believe that an intelligent player is one who can make excellent decisions when under pressure in order to overcome the problems faced in the game, then coaches need to allow players to learn, practise and develop these attributes. This book is about using small-sided soccer games (SSGs) to enable players to experience and improve their problem solving and decision making skills. It is not about 'rewarding' players with a game at the end of training, but rather it is about using SSGs as a fundamental pillar of all coaching sessions in order to develop, challenge and improve players' technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social qualities. This book features 25 original soccer games which have been designed by Soccer IQ and the International Street Soccer Association to place your players in realistic, motivating, enjoyable and challenging situations where they can develop their understanding of the game and become 'thinking players'. The games will allow and encourage players to plan, experiment and evaluate their decision making and problem-solving ability. This is a book that helps a coach plan stimulating and purposeful coaching sessions based on a holistic approach to player development. In turn each game can easily be adapted to reflect the needs of your players and team. We hope you and your players enjoy the games which follow; and that they may help you to design your own games to help develop your players' problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Cristiano Ronaldo's chop, Neymar's flick, Lionel Messi's mazy dribbles, and Harry Kane's deadly finishing are just some of the 45 inspirational figures and actions in the book.

In 50 More Goalkeeper Training Exercises, goalkeeping coach Andy Elleray follows up his previous book - 65 Goalkeeper Training Exercises - to provide fellow football coaches with a wide variety of new practices that cover many aspects of goalkeeping. Practices are aimed at developing holistically-comfortable and effective goalkeepers who fit into different coaching philosophies and approaches. The practices are designed for working on the specific skills that goalkeepers need within the game.
The goalkeeper training exercises in the book focus on five main viewpoints - technical, tactical, psychological, physical, and social/environmental. Each practice is weighted to develop these elements to greater and lesser degrees, and exercises include 1v1 techniques, decision making, shot stopping from different angles/distances, travelling around the goalmouth, re-positioning, cutback scenarios, and more.
All the listed practices are real-world and have been used at a variety of levels within football to enhance goalkeeper development of all ages. They can all be adapted based on the numbers of players and resources available to the coach, while fundamental factors such as time and space allow the coach to be creative with how the exercises are implemented. The book's introduction and glossary sections outline how to go about applying the exercises and offer suggestions based on goalkeeping themes and the learning detail required within them.

The Masterful, Definitive History of Argentinian Soccer
Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, Alfredo Di St'fano: in every generation Argentina has uncovered a uniquely brilliant soccer talent. Perhaps it's because the country lives and breathes the game, its theories, and its myths. Argentina's rich, volatile history -- by turns sublime and ruthlessly pragmatic -- is mirrored in the style and swagger of its national and club sides. In Angels with Dirty Faces, Jonathan Wilson chronicles the operatic drama of Argentinian soccer: the appropriation of the British game, the golden age of la nuestra, the exuberant style of playing that developed as Juan PerÃ3ed the country, a hardening into the brutal methods of anti-fà , the fusion of beauty and efficacy under C'sar Luis Menotti, and the emergence of all-time greats. Praise for Inverting the Pyramid Here, for the first time in decades, is a top-notch soccer book on how soccer is actually played on the field. -- Simon Kuper An outstanding work. . . . The soccer book of the decade. -- Sunday Business PostAuthor Biography
Jonathan Wilson is a columnist for The Guardian and the cohost of the football history podcast It Was What It Was. He has written thirteen books, including Inverting the Pyramid, and is the founder and editor of The Blizzard. He lives in London.

Welcome to 25 1v1 Soccer Games which contains coaching games to help you develop players' attacking and defensive skills in 1v1 situations. The games are designed to be flexible so you can adapt them to your players- needs and focus on different aspects of 1v1s, but they can also be easily extended to 2v2 or similar. The development of 1v1 skills is vital as all players must be able to be successful in these situations all over the pitch. Whether receiving the ball in tight midfield areas like lniesta, taking on a defender like Ronalda, or being the last defender like Sergio Ramos, players who can dominate in 1v1s are vital to their team. To be successful in 1v1s, players need to practice these situations regularly. Luckily players will enjoy practicing this aspect of football. Informal street games of 'Wembley/World Cup' have long contributed to the development of players' 1v1 skills, as have street versions of 'Panna competitions'. Alongside these we believe the coach can contribute to the development of these skills by including them within the coaching session. By influencing an environment in which players are encouraged to be creative, competitive and allowed to take risks, coaches are able to help players become confident in their 1v1 skills. This book gives you some great ideas by allowing players to create, experiment and perfect their 1v1 skills.

A passionate, haunting and moving work that tells the breathtaking story of how Dutch Jews survived the unspeakable and came to play a strong role in the rise of the most exciting and revolutionary style of soccer -- "Total Football" -- the world had ever seen.
When most people think about the Netherlands, images of tulips and peaceful pot smoking residents spring to mind. Bring up soccer, and most will think of Johan Cruyff, the Dutch player thought to rival Pele in preternatural skill, and Ajax, one of the most influential soccer clubs in the world whose academy system for young athletes has been replicated around the globe. In Ajax, The Dutch, The War: Soccer in Europe During the Second World War, bestselling author Simon Kuper shows how the story of soccer in Holland cannot be understood without investigating what really occurred in this country during WWII. For decades, the Dutch have enjoyed the reputation of having a "good war." The myth is even resonant in Israel where Ajax is celebrated. The fact is, the Jews suffered shocking persecution at the hands of Dutch collaborators. Holland had the second largest Nazi movement in Europe outside Germany, and in no other country except Poland was so high a percentage of Jews deported. Kuper challenges Holland's historical amnesia and uses soccer -- particularly the experience of Ajax, a club long supported by Amsterdam's Jews -- as a window on wartime Holland and Europe. Through interviews with Resistance fighters, survivors, wartime soccer players and more, Kuper uncovers this history that has been ignored, and also finds out why the Holocaust had a profound effect on soccer in the country. Ajax produced Cruyff but was also built by members of the Dutch resistance and Holocaust survivors. It became a surrogate family for many who survived the war and its method for producing unparalleled talent became the envy of clubs around the world.Author Biography

More than 250 women have played on the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, and most contributed to the battle for equal pay. This narrative nonfiction book by the award-winning author and journalist Elizabeth Rusch traces the evolution of that fight, bringing this important rights issue in sports and in our culture to the attention of young readers. Features extensive backmatter.
With the passage of Title IX in 1972, the doors opened for young women to play sports at a higher level. But for the women on the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, being able to compete at an international level didn't mean fair treatment and fair compensation.
From economy-class airplane seats and inadequate lodging to minimal marketing and slashed wages, the women representing the United States at the Olympics, the World Cup, and other tournaments had reason to be fed up. They were expected to--and did--win, but they weren't compensated for their talent and dedication. With the help of their union and in collaboration with the men's team, they secured an equitable contract in 2022 that ultimately benefited both national teams as well as athletes of the future.
Elizabeth Rusch's A Greater Goal chronicles how members of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team fought to receive fair treatment and equal pay despite the intense pushback they received from U.S. Soccer, the governing body of soccer in the United States. With a narrative that includes player profiles and vignettes framed from team member perspectives, A Greater Goal illuminates the work, support, and grit needed to be treated with equality in a world that often undervalues the contributions of women.
Features extensive back matter, including a call to action, additional resources, and an index.
