by Paul Runyan (Author)
At the age of 50, Paul Runyan hit the ball just as consistently and even farther than he had during his younger years. In this book, the two-time World Senior Champion guides golfers over 50 how to play better, score better, and get more enjoyment out of the game. No one is more qualified to instruct senior golfers than Paul Runyan, who gave over 2,000 lessons a year at the La Jolla Country Club, both to dubs and to some of the best amateurs and pros of the day.
Paul Runyan's Book for Senior Golfers is crammed with unique direction about putting, chipping, and making wedge shots from long grass around greens. Find out why a five wood is better for most players than the two iron. This book also features helpful instructional line drawings and photographs, as well as tips on training and the proper competitive attitude. Because of Runyan's no-nonsense teaching style, younger players would also find this book useful.
Paul Runyan (1908-2002), also known as "Little Poison" for his small stature and deadly short-game technique, began his golf career as a caddy and went on to become one of the world's best players in the 1930s. Largely self-taught, Runyan achieved 29 PGA tour wins, including two PGA Championships. After serving in the US Navy during WWII, Runyan began his career as an instructor, during which he developed unique styles for putting and chipping. Among other awards and honors, Runyan was inducted into both the World Golf Hall of Fame and the World Golf Teacher's Hall of Fame.
by Kevin Kenny (Author)
The Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) was formed in 1950, 34 years after the men's association. There were 13 founding members, one of whom was Patty Berg (1918-2006). After a glittering amateur career with 28 championships, Berg turned professional in 1940. Before the formation of the LPGA she made a living playing in an occasional tournament and conducting thousands of exhibitions and teaching clinics in the U.S.
Berg had one of the most successful careers in women's golf. She won 57 tour titles and her 15 major pro championships remain a record. This first biography of Berg traces her career from "teenage sensation" to beloved and respected elder stateswoman of the game, chronicling her role among the founding members who created the multi-million dollar LPGA.

by Roland Merullo (Author)
Most avid golfers believe that there is a profound connection between the joys and challenges of golf and the joys and challenges of living - that the more devoted we are to the game, the more we learn about ourselves. In Passion for Golf, Roland Merullo looks carefully at those connections and at the reasons why people find themselves irresistibly attracted to golf. Drawing on the triumphs and travails of playing partners, friends, and family members, and mixing in anecdotes from his own adventures on and off the course, Merullo explores the notion of a 'true goal of golf, ' a hidden attraction that, ultimately, has more to do with deep peace and satisfaction than with the dream of playing on the PGA tour. He finds connections between fairway lessons and the mystical wisdom of Lao Tzu, Theresa of Avila, Thoreau, Jesus, Buddha, and Walt Whitman, among many others, and looks into the role of ego, anger, and silence in golf and life. More than anything else, Passion for Golf is a celebration of the game, an examination of the roots of our passion for it, and a meditation on the lessons every golfer carries away from the course and into his or her life. Publishers Weekly wrote, "For average hackers who struggle weekly to lower their scores, this slender, accessible guide offers insight into the emotional stumbling blocks that get in the way of improvement and, most importantly, enjoyment of the game... Readers who enjoyed Michael Murphy's Zen of golf classic, Golf in the Kingdom, should have room for this spiritual journey in their Christmas stocking. And, The Washington Post stated "...Merullo provides more than enough food for thought for even the most contemplative golfer."

Who says reality TV romance isn't real?
Holland Bradley is the golf world's golden boy. Confident and charismatic, when his agent lands him the starring role on Most Eligible Mister, the nation's longest running reality TV dating show, he doesn't hesitate. A chance to find love by dating twenty beautiful women and bringing more attention to the sport he loves, while also curing him of the tiny crush he has on his coach? Sounds like a hole in one.
A woman in a male-dominated field, golf coach Mallory Walsh doesn't have the luxury of sharing Holland's cavalier attitude. But she's a pro, so she can set her personal disdain for him aside and keep coaching Holland to tournament victories. The more he wins, the more she's paid, and the more she can help her parents with their mounting medical bills. Holland's role on Most Eligible Mister is a distraction he-and she-can't afford...until one of the show's producers offers Mallory good money to sign on as a contestant.
Holland and Mallory are whisked away to Cashmere Cove, where a scheming, hometown community is intent on "helping" them fall in love and fame-hungry contestants are determined to keep them apart. The player and coach pair make a pact to keep things professional, but soon the pressure cooker situation has them teaming up to survive. As Holland relies on Mallory for support in dealing with past trauma, and Mallory discovers a good listener and fierce advocate beneath Holland's flashy façade, everything changes. Can the pair come out on top, or is any real relationship between them as unlikely as an albatross?
Because pros don't fall in love...do they?
(Pros Don't is the fourth book in the Fall In Love series, which follows different couples as they find love in the small town of Cashmere Cove, Wisconsin. This is a closed door romcom with plenty of sizzling chemistry and romantic tension, but no spice. Pros Don't is a standalone title but it's best enjoyed after reading Friends Don't, Enemies Don't, and Exes Don't.)
What else to expect:
- Golf romance
- Guy falls first
- Small town setting
- He takes care of her

Every golfer wants to score under 100; however, less than 20% are able to play that well. A huge amount of the 80% over 100 could break that 100 barrier if they would make the right decisions while they are playing the game. This book is one of the few golf books that doesn't try to improve the skill level of the golfer, but rather improves his game with the skill that he has. The book is also for the golfer who is just getting started with the game. Even though new golfers are a long ways from being able to break 100, they can still look like they belong, on the golf course by getting to know the proper etiquette and the proper terminology. This book will do that, plus give them a knowledge about the types of games that are commonly played and will give a good understanding of the rules of golf. Even people who do not intend to play golf but enjoy watching it on television should read this book to get a better understanding of the game so watching tournaments will be more enjoyable.

The best golfers in the world are also the best strategists. They know how to read a golf hole, how to size up risks, how to identify opportunities, and how to play the percentages to get the most out of their game. Whether you are a 30-handicapper or a 3, the easy-to-learn and easy-to-use principles in Course Navigation can literally transform your game and put you in better positions to score, without having to make a single swing change. Playing strategically is exactly what you need to take advantage of the greatest weapon you bring to the course - your mind. Filled with practical examples, illustrations and anecdotes Course Navigation will give you the solid strategic foundation every player needs for a consistent golf game. You'll see the course with new eyes. You'll look at green complexes with new understanding. You'll recognize how features like bunkers, trees, water, mounds, swales, slopes, and rough are used by course architects to defend the hole against your attack, and you'll know how to handle them. You'll approach your shots and your strategy with more confidence. You'll learn: - Why the strategy for your current shot should be to make the next shot easier, and how it makes your entire round more fun; - How playing the hole backwards helps you identify the best angles, landing areas, and club selection to maximize your scoring opportunities; - Which pins to attack, and when the middle of the green is your best option; - How to identify the natural path of a hole, including the defenses and soft spots, so that you can always play from a position of strength; - Why picking specific targets will help you select the right club more often and allow you to swing away with confidence; - Strategy from a Hall of Fame baseball pitcher to deal with the toughest holes on the course. If you want to score you need to learn to do what scorers do: get the ball in the hole in fewer strokes. This is the antidote to the swing tips that don't help your golf game and to the excessive focus on fixing mechanics. Course Navigation will give you what's been missing from your golf game: a better way to play golf by using Tour-tested course management strategies and scoring techniques.

by Alan Shipnuck (Author)
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * "A rollicking good time." --Golfweek * "Thoroughly engaging." --The Washington Post
Now with a new afterword: a juicy and freewheeling biography of legendary golf champion Phil Mickelson--who has led a big, controversial life--as reported by longtime Sports Illustrated writer and bestselling author Alan Shipnuck. Phil Mickelson is one of the most compelling figures in sports. For more than three decades he has been among the best golfers in the world, and his unmatched longevity was exemplified at the 2021 PGA Championship, when Mickelson, on the cusp of turning fifty-one, became the oldest player in history to win a major championship. In this raw, uncensored, and unauthorized biography, Alan Shipnuck captures a singular life defined by thrilling victories, crushing defeats, and countless controversies. Mickelson is a multifaceted character, and all his warring impulses are on display in these pages: He is a smart-ass who built an empire on being the consummate professional; a loving husband dogged by salacious rumors; a high-stakes gambler who knows the house always wins but can't tear himself away. Mickelson's career and public image have been defined by the contrast with his lifelong rival, Tiger Woods. Where Woods is robotic and reticent, Mickelson is affable and extroverted, an incorrigible showman whom many fans love and some abhor because of the overwhelming size of his personality. In their early years together on Tour, Mickelson lacked Tiger's laser focus and discipline, leading Tida Woods to call her son's rival "the fat boy," among other put-downs. Yet as Tiger's career has been curtailed by scandal, addiction, and a broken body, Phil sails on, still relevant on the golf course and in the marketplace. Phil is the perfect marriage of subject and author. Shipnuck has long been known as the most fearless writer on the golf beat, and he delivers numerous revelations, from the true scale of Mickelson's massive gambling losses; to the inside story of the acrimonious breakup between Phil and his longtime caddie, Jim "Bones" Mackay; to the secretive backstory of the Saudi golf league that Mickelson championed to wield as leverage against the PGA Tour. Any intense effort, such as with a bow and arrow, Tai Chi reenactment of nature's movements, or even swinging a golf club, can be a vehicle for bringing a mindfulness of the mental/physical aggregates of our existence into a clearer focus in the service of crossing a great river of life that, as ancients postulated, separated unwholesomeness from wholesomeness where freedom from suffering awaits. Realities of what comprises one's self and the fantasies of others can both be arenas for opening minds to pondering both life's unexplained mysteries and a path bringing life's known building blocks under self-control.
Golf happens to be taken as the outward direction of the path, appreciation of gravity, and the centering of oneself as the underfooting of the path and a glimmer of a calm, alert mind as the destination. The present effort, inspired by actual experiences throughout the world, captures tales "outside of the spectator ropes"-some fantasized, some real-that hinted of essential elements of Eastern psychology underlying the aggregates of our existence and self-help aids such as practicing breathing meditation or mindfulness.

Life, like golf, is just rough at times. So what do we do when we find ourselves in the proverbial deep stuff on or off the links? Do we hack away continuing to take risks and go for the impossible shot? Or do we take a more conservative approach and play it safe to give ourselves a better view of the fairway?
From a near paralyzing mountain bike crash, to an attempt to caddie, and finally playing some of the most famous courses in Southwest England, this book is one person's year of setbacks and his efforts to forcibly escape them in hilarious, precarious, and somewhat victorious fashion.

by Arnold Palmer (Author), Steve Eubanks (With)
When exactly is a ball considered "lost"? When is a "drop" allowed? How does one define "slow play"? These are just a few of the common -- and not-so-common -- questions answered by golfing legend Arnold Palmer in this comprehensive illustrated guide to the rules of the game. Despite the fact that golf has fewer rules than sports like baseball or football, it is a contest of honor, and all players, from tour professionals to weekend hackers, respect the rules. But, as Palmer points out, sometimes the rules are a little confusing -- and from time to time, even the pros are puzzled. Here, in easy-to-follow language, one of golf's greats explains exactly what every golfer should know about the way the game should be played. Also included are anecdotes Palmer has culled from his own career, as well as the infamous moments in golf history that have helped define and test each rule. If you're one of the millions of avid golfers who take to the links every year, need a clear explanation of all the rules of the game you love, and don't want to be left speechless when an argument over the "coefficient of restitution" pops up, then Playing by the Rules is an invaluable guide you'll refer to time and again.
Author Biography
Arnold Palmer is one of the most storied and successful golfers to have ever played the game. He won the Masters Tournament four times, in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964 and the U.S. Open in spectacular fashion in 1960 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver, coming back from seven strokes down in the final round. Palmer also won the British Open in 1961 and 1962. Among the majors, only the PGA Championship has eluded him -- he finished second three times. He was also Ryder Cup captain in 1963. Arnold Palmer divides his time between Latrobe, a small industrial town in Western Pennsylvania where he was born, and Florida. He is the author of a number of practical golf guides, as well as the bestselling autobiography, A GOLFER'S LIFE.
by Michael Laughlin (Author)
The next time you play golf leave your woods at home, putt with your 2-iron, and you will be on your way to shooting in the 70s. Sounds radical? Well, you're right on par! Golf enthusiast Michael Laughlin, whose day job is in the film business, reveals his proven, but completely radical strategies that average golfers can use to dramatically lower their score.
In Radical Golf, Laughlin rethinks how the game of golf is traditionally played and shares his surprising and innovative ideas on how to play better golf. Unlike the usual technique-riddled golf books, Radical Golf offers practical and easy-to-use tips, and is written for the legion of average players who will never have the long, crunching power game of the professional. "Golf is not a linear game," insists Laughlin, and "Scoring is definitely not related to advancing the ball as far as possible on each shot." In this fun and accessible book, the radical golfer contends, for example, that players should approach the pin much like basketball players maneuver to shoot a basket by striving to shoot from their best, or "sweet" spot on the court. Laughlin also suggests that golf should be played as two separate games (of tee-to-green and putts) and that golfers should keep a separate scorecard for their putting game. Equally radical, Radical Golf calls for using a 2-iron for putts rather than the "dreaded" putter (the loft of the 2-iron matches the putter, "Calamity Jane," of legendary golfer Bobby Jones). Hole by hole, sensible shot after sensible shot, Radical Golf simulates a round of golf with a pro to show how a radical golfer can stay within strokes of par play. Written in a witty and easy-to-understand style, with entertaining sidebars and line drawings, Radical Golf will revolutionize how golf is played both on and off the course. Most of all, Radical Golf will increase the enjoyment of playing this great and challenging game. Radical Golf is just the book that could become the bible of the weekend golfer.Front Jacket

Back Jacket
This book is short, entertaining - and revolutionary. By following a few simple principles explained in these pages, you can learn to shoot in the 70s. There are only two prerequisites: You have to be ready to forget the dogma of golf instructors and the propaganda of equipment manufacturers. And you have to be willing to have more fun on the golf course than you've ever had before. Radical Golf is not about how to hit the ball farther. It's not about learning dozens of specialized shots for different situations. It is about how to think your way around a golf course, so you can use the shots you're best at to maximum effect. You'll learn, among other things, why you should leave your woods at home, the secret of Bobby Jones's putter, how to find your "free throw" of golf, and why this is your most important shot. Written with a refreshing sense of humor and illustrated with more than sixty line drawings, this book will bring a smile to your face before you step onto the course - and an even bigger smile as you step off it.
Author Biography
Michael Laughlin, a successful producer, director, and screenwriter, whose latest screenplay, "Town and Country" starring Warren Beatty for New Line Pictures, will begin production this summer . . . is also a pretty good golfer. After years of making films, he re-introduced himself to the game while on hiatus in Hawaii, and he virtually reinvented it, dismissing the traditional techniques, and surprisingly, lowered his scores and raised his level of enjoyment. He decide to reveal the "radical" techniques in Radical Golf. It could become the bible of the weekend golfer.
Rethinking traditional ways is not new to Laughlin. For instance, he produced several non-mainstream films including "Two Lane Blacktop" (1971) which starred James Taylor and Warren Oates and was directed by Monte Hellman which had such an extraordinary screenplay that is was published in its entirety in Esquire magazine. He wrote and directed the off-beat genre films "Strange Behavior" (1981) which starred Michael Murphy and Louise Fletcher, and "Strange Invaders" (1983), which starred Paul LeMat, Nancy Allen, and Wallace Shawn at a time when formulaic movies were more the trend. These three movies, "radical" for their time, are now considered cult classics. After graduating Principia College in Illinois, he decided to attend law school at UCLA so he could be closer to Hollywood and the movies. By the age of twenty-five, after a short career producing musical concerts in colleges, Laughlin dismissed his law career and moved to London where he began producing movies including "The Whisperers," with Dame Edith Evans who was nominated for an Academy Award. "Joanna" a pop art movie which he produced for Fox, starred Donald Sutherland and took him to the Cannes Film Festival where he met the actress Leslie Caron. There was a brief courtship and they married in Jamaica and then moved to Hollywood where Laughlin continued his producing career. After an eight-year marriage, Laughlin moved back to Europe where he lived in London, Paris, and Italy. In the early 80's, now living with the novelist, Susanna Moore (My Old Sweetheart, In the Cut), and her young daughter, Lulu, he settled in New York where he took another challenge and began writing and directing films. Aside from "Strange Behavior" and "Strange Invaders," both of which received critical acclaim, he wrote and directed the thriller "Mesmerized" which starred Jodie Foster and John Lithgow, about a young bride in New Zealand at the turn of the century. Future projects for Laughlin include more books about other sports, and of course, he is working on several screenplays. Michael Laughlin lives in New York City, Los Angeles, and Kauai.by Matthew F. Filner (Author)
Being a father may be the greatest and scariest experience of many men's lives, but there's no map or manual; every dad must find their way. Matthew Filner tells stories from his first 18 years as a parent to share the lessons he's learned. He also takes us through rounds he's played at iconic golf courses, to show us the many parallels between golf and parenting. The result is an entertaining read, with something for everyone.
"Golf and fatherhood are two of the most challenging and wonderful things a man can undertake-full of wonder and unexpected happiness one moment followed by nagging worry and various stages of quiet terror the next. In both experiences we learn as we go. Someone once said that a good father's joys and fears are private-for he dare not speak of one, and will not speak of the other. In Play It As It Lies, Matthew Filner has done a masterful job of chronicling and revealing the various stages of fatherhood through the prism of the game he dearly loves, as he and wife, Theresa, navigate the ups and downs of everyday life raising their sons Aidan and Elliott. Aside from the yeoman's tour Filner provides of some of America's finest layouts, you may see vivid glimpses of your own struggles and small triumphs in pursuit of both games. In the end, we must play everything in life as it lies-and thereby find both joy and meaning in the process."-James Dodson, New York Times-bestselling author of Final Rounds and Ben Hogan: An American Life
"As a game so often shared between fathers and their children, golf is a game that many of us can't separate from memories of our dads. Matthew Filner's Play It As It Lies is a moving testament to why those memories are the greatest gifts golf can give us. Whether you're a father or daughter or son or grandfather, there is a story here to remind you that golf with dad is as good as golf gets."-Tom Coyne, New York Times-bestselling author of A Course Called Scotland, A Course Called America, and others.

From Simon & Schuster, Perfect Lies, edited by William Hallberg, is a collection of a century of great golf stories.
The game of golf has been celebrate in the short story throughout the centuries. This anthology of the world's greatest golf stories includes writings by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ring Lardner, P.G. Wodehouse, John Updike, Andre Dubus, Walker Percy, and others.by David Lunt (Author)
Golf was the most popular stick and ball game throughout the 1800s in the UK, but it wasn't the golf played in Scotland. It was 'poor man's golf' as played throughout all the former Danelaw area of England and more properly called knur and spell.
This game was played by thousands of players, in hundreds or even thousands of locations, across a very wide area. It was played for centuries in all the northern counties of England including the ones which border on Scotland. It was even played in Scotland itself and was also played in Australia and the USA.
Strangely enough, the Scots rarely give this game a mention when they talk about the origins of golf. How does that work?

by Norwood Young (Author)
An unflinching close-range chronicle of Napoleon's fall and brief return. A single year changed Europe. Norwood Young's Napoleon in Exile follows the interval from the entry of the Allies into Paris on 31 March 1814 to Napoleon's return from Elba and landing at Golfe-Jouan on 1 March 1815. Written with the immediacy of a nineteenth century memoir and the discipline of a chronicle, it reads like a historical eyewitness account: tight chronology, unsparing detail and an eye for the moods that shaped early 1800s Europe. The narrative concentrates on the Elba island exile, the political manoeuvres that accompanied the emperor's removal, and the fragile public sentiments that form the backdrop to the French Empire downfall, making it essential reading for anyone engaged in napoleonic wars history or curious about the exile of Napoleon. Young's voice is concise and measured; he privileges fact over flourish, yet the human shape of events - defeat, calculation and the pull of return - remains clear. For readers who favour context as much as storytelling, the volume supplies a steady register where dates, movements and public mood are set against the broader sweep of the era. Historically significant, the book offers perspective on the months between abdication and return and the chain of events that led toward the Waterloo campaign. As narrative history it suits casual readers seeking vivid context; as source material it serves students and researchers of european military history and provides usable academic reference material for libraries and courses. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. Appealing to those building a history enthusiasts collection as well as to classic-literature collectors, Norwood Young's Napoleon in Exile rewards both the general reader and the scholar and holds enduring relevance for anyone with waterloo campaign interest.

Duffers need a different set of mental game strategies than professionals and low-handicappers, but most golf psychology books are oriented to golf pros and scratch golfers because those are the people who pay for sports psychologists' advice. Some even say that recreational golfers don't need mental game strategies, just more lessons.
Recreational golfers can benefit greatly from an improved mental game if the strategies are tailored to their needs. Duffers want to optimize their performance, but they also just want to have an enjoyable round, even when their game is less than optimal. "Now That Shot Sucked!: Golf's Mental Game for Duffers" is written by a psychologist and recreational golfer for recreational golfers to improve their mental game, play better, and enjoy the game more.
