Author Biography
In the words of Arthur Daley, "Golf is like a love affair. If you don't take it seriously, it's no fun; if you take it seriously, it will break your heart." We along with thousands of others who socially and for business play golf, believe taking golf too seriously may lead to disaster on the course as well as business relationships. Having the right story to tell or the right joke for an uncomfortable situation is important. The Team at Golfwell couldn't find any great golf stories or jokes like the kind golfers actually tell on the course. So, we create golf books with humorous stories and original jokes. We are Kiwis in New Zealand and have traveled some of this world and the golf courses in it. From our experiences, we believe, as e.e. cummings' wrote, "The most wasted of all days, is the one without laughter." We love humor. When we reflect on the happiest times in our lives, it's usually been times of great laughter and friendship. We always try to enjoy golf and life and the company of the good people in this world. We hope you enjoy the writings of our team and our various publications and articles. Have some laughs and read the great reviews inside the first few pages of this book!

Today's golfing instruction bombards you with an endless list of swing mechanics to mentally control during a swing of less than two seconds. "Golf . . . is a sport in which the whole American family can participate--fathers and mothers, sons and daughters alike. It offers healthy respite from daily toil, refreshment of body and mind."
--President Dwight D. Eisenhower
On January 24, 1953, four days after his inauguration, the New York Times reported that President Dwight D. Eisenhower had been spotted on the White House lawn practicing his short irons in the direction of the Washington Monument. This image of "The Golfing General" was one that the American public quickly became accustomed to, as Eisenhower is said to have played nearly 800 rounds during the course of his two-term presidency. He befriended the game's most beloved players, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, and Byron Nelson, and was the subject of hundreds of golf jokes and cartoons.
The public's awareness of Eisenhower's obsession with golf led directly to the sport's mid-century surge in popularity. In Don't Ask What I Shot, noted historian Catherine M. Lewis offers a unique alternate portrait of Ike and this watershed period in American history.
"Any time you have a person in the position of President Eisenhower, who was so enthusiastic about golf and had the press paying attention to his many excursions on the golf course, it was going to make people aware of the game and how much he enjoyed playing it."
--Arnold Palmer
"Don't Ask What I Shot is a fascinating examination of one of golf's pivotal decades, and the remarkable president who did more to popularize the game than any other in history."
-Mark Frost, award-winning author of Grand Slam and The Greatest Game Ever Played
"Whatever remained to be done to remove the last traces of the average man's carefully nurtured prejudice against a game originally linked with the wealthy and aloof was done by President Eisenhower."
--Herbert Warren Wind, renowned golf writer

A REVOLUTIONARY NEW APPROACH to reading greens and making putts.
Everything you need to know to become a GREAT putter. Learn how to read greens, anticipate breaks, and evaluate putts, plus tips for choosing your putting strategy.
Comprehensive Keys to the Green shows you how to get the right feedback from a chip or putt, so you can determine if the line was off, or the speed was off (or both), and, if so, by precisely how much -- critical information for your putting success.
Best of all, your first chip or putt will give you all the information you need for the next. With that information, you'll be well on your way to lower scores.
The PERFECT COMPLEMENT to the AIMPOINT System
That system tells you how to predict the amount of break and pick a point of aim. It does a great job, too. In fact, it was one of the original inspirations for the "Keys to the Green" system.
But once you predict the putt, you have to make the putt. After a miss, which generally happens the first time, you need to determine if your prediction was off, or your execution.
Was your putt too fast or too slow (execution)? Was it too high, or too low (prediction)? Or was it a combination of factors (it generally is), and if so, by how much of each?
The Keys to the Green system is the perfect way to tell if your green-speed estimate or finger-alignment was off, giving you an inaccurate read, or whether you had the wrong speed. That feedback helps you can make the right adjustment for your next putt.
And More!
The book also covers putting mechanics, and the entire putting process from initial read to final stroke evaluation. It shows you how to anticipate which way the ball will break as it encounters different slopes (a few of which are decidedly non-intuitive!). It also includes bonus material to help you set up a practice program.
Comprehensive Keys to the Green is a clearly-written, easy-to-follow guide that will have you mastering the greens in no time. Use this manual to save multiple strokes per round, in the easiest part of the game!

Ever since the first tortured soul attempted to hit a small ball with a crooked stick and hit the ball straight golfers have driven themselves half insane wondering if the Golf God is real. Wonder no more you poor souls obsessed with the agonizing game of golf. THE GOLF GOD IS REAL! The Golf God appeared to a devastated Shanks in the bar of the Fleece Muni after Shanks had choked an 18 inch putt to lose a bet. The Golf God informed Shanks he had been chosen to be the Golf Gods disciple. Why have I been chosen?" Shanks asked in utter bewilderment. "Because you are the worst putter I have ever seen and to continue to play the game you have to be consumed with unquestionable devotion," answered the Golf God righteously. The Golf God also informed Shanks he would be blessed to write the Golf Gods' legacy. In between beer, cigarettes, and pizza the Golf God told Shanks the real history of golf, made clear what golf terms really mean, explained why we play the game, gave a few tips about putting, driving, and chipping, and revealed secrets on how to improve your game without spending thousands of dollars on golf lessons. Shanks also shared several stories about real life golfers - the kind who take your hard earned cash and lie about their handicaps. Grab a slice of pizza, have a beer, then sit back and enjoy the conversations between Shanks and the Golf God. (Side note: The Golf God is overjoyed when you play golf on Sunday and is not affiliated with any organized religion.)

This book was featured on Golf Channel and recommended by America's top 10 golf instructor. It will revolutionize the way you see and learn the golf swing! Did it ever occur to you that a swing plane doesn't even exist? Do you know that Mr. Ben Hogan didn't swing on the plane he wrote about? Can you imagine that the swing plane you have in mind may be the cause of your slice or shank? In an effort to clarify the misconceptions on the seemingly simple swing plane, this book reveals the truth and fundamentals hidden behind. Here is the shocking truth: there is no backswing or downswing plane in a conventional full swing, there is only the striking plane. The book introduces the Striking Plane Swing Model, which has been extracted from the swings of numerous great ball strikers in history. The model defines the essence of the swing and the proper sequence of club movement, and is based on the laws of classical mechanics and the knowledge of human anatomy. This book will show you why and how many of existing swing plane theories are flawed. A simple but accurate swing analysis method is also introduced and can be used to analyze your swings and pinpoint your issues. Golfers of all levels can benefit from the concepts discussed in this book and will be able to look at the golf swing from a brand new perspective. Knowing the true swing plane fundamentals, an amateur will be able to better understand and diagnose his swing issues; an advanced player will be able to own his swing by creating a swing style that suits him the best.

"If you don't get some laughs from this book, you might want to become a mortician." - Johnny G.
John Groshell loved sports, dogs and making people laugh. But if you think you've had challenges, you should see all that was thrown at him. For starters, on Father's Day after John's high school graduation, his family went "Kaboom!" with his father's shotgun blast.
Never liking school much, John nonetheless became a teacher and taught for five years. Many of the students he taught and coached said he should be a comedian or have a talk show on TV. John was especially effective with those labeled as misfits or hard-to-teach.
Loving sports, John became a golf pro and worked his way to PGA membership which took two PGA schools and passing a playing test. Within a year he bought 20 per cent of a riverside golf course and 20 years later, he owned 100 per cent. With amazing help from its members, the course has survived five devastating floods.
This book includes the best of John's wacky adventures, crazy bets, failures and successes. John Groshell has pretty much pushed the envelope throughout his life. Let the tears and laughter begin...

Following on the success of "Just Hit It," Thomas's new book "Dear Frank..." is an enjoyable, informative collection of 100 question and answers about golf equipment, compiled from Thomas's popular on-line column, which receives tens of thousands of visits from regular golfers every week. Do regular golfers really play with the same clubs as the pros? Do knockoffs work as well as the more expensive brand names? What's the truth about titanium and distance? Can a driver lose its pop over time? Are blades or cavity-backed irons longer? Does cold weather affect golf clubs? Does plumb-bobbing really work? Are expensive and custom-tweaked shafts worth the money? Can you clean golf balls in the dishwasher? The answers to these and more are here, in clear and concise language that takes complex technical subjects and makes them understandable to everyone. "Dear Frank..." delivers honest evaluations in an informal, friendly, practical manner, cutting through the hype of golf equipment marketing. Thomas educates and entertains, delivering his customary sterling advice to golfers in need. He knows what works and what doesn't, what's worth buying and what's not worth worrying about. He also knows how you can get the technology you need at a price you're willing to pay - advice that will save the reader far more than the cost of the book itself. The technical expertise and personal communication in "Dear Frank..." provide a practical source of information that will help all golfers select the right equipment and lower their handicaps while saving them some scratch.

No matter how sophisticated the tools become-the e-mails and teleconferencing, the BlackBerries and PowerPoints-golf remains the true communications hub of American business
In the history of American business there have been more deals consummated on the golf course than in any boardroom or five-star restaurant. It's no accident that executives from J. D. Rockefeller to Jack Welch have made time in their busy schedules for eighteen holes. Deals on the Green takes a fresh look at the interesting worlds of golf and business. It's not a "how to win business" instructional, but it does offer lessons about what is required to succeed in golf and in business-namely friendship, imagination, tenacity, multitasking, guts, passion, and compassion. And it shares great inside stories about the leaders whose devotion to and respect for the game have contributed to their success in business. Financial journalist David Rynecki takes us inside the gates of elite courses such as Augusta National and Pebble Beach to reveal how the wealthy and powerful really behave-or misbehave. He lets us in on the keys to mixing business and pleasure, the best way to swing a nine iron in front of your boss, and even what to do if you happen to slice it.by Steve G. Pease (Author)
Have you thought about trying Disc Golf?Do you play now and want to get better?I got a great story sent to me a couple years ago. A player who was fairly new went out to play a round with his dad, there was a reporter and a photographer at the course from the local paper. He asked if you could take a couple pictures for a story they were doing on disc golf, the guy said sure. The photographer got into position about 50 feet up the edge of the fairway, the guy let loose with his drive and hit the photographer square in the chest with his driver.Very embarrassing, and funny now, but no one wants to do that. I love this story because it shows exactly why everyone wants to get better. I have put together things that I have learned over the past 30 years of playing disc golf that will save you time and frustration when you are starting out, and help you to improve your game if you have been playing for a while. Disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. One of the main reasons for it's popularity is that disc golf can be played by players of almost any age and ability. This book is for the beginner to the advanced player. It starts from not now knowing how to play at all, and takes you through how to improve, and keep improving the longer you play. If you haven't played disc golf, you need to play, if you have, you know why it's growing so much in popularity. Get this book and learn how to play, and learn how to play better. The techniques and tips are things that seasoned players know, but it never hurts to keep them in your mind when you are going to play. If you're new or just starting out, these tips could save you time and frustration by not having to lean all by trial and error Do you want to exercise while having fun?Disc golf is great exercise, you can get a good workout from playing a round or two of disc golf, it's a couple miles of walking and throwing, and it's the most fun way there is to exercise. Download this book and learn about one of the best sports there is.

The relationship golfers have to the courses they play is unique. Perhaps that's why you often hear players speak about their "home golf course." As a result, everyone affiliated with a golf facility - player, superintendent, manager, green committee member, owner - has strong feelings about the design and golf course architecture. This book provides information for those making decisions about golf facilities. Hopefully, those decisions lead to greater success for the facility and more people playing golf more often and enjoying it more.As someone with a voice in determining how and when to update, renovate or redesign your golf course, what questions should you be asking? Whether a Green Committee member, Superintendent or course Manager, having helpful information is a first step to a finished product that is more playable and profitable. That's where this book comes in.The chapters are intentionally brief for ease of reading and retention. The information provided here comes from men and women with great experience and passion for the game. Our hope is to help golf facilities succeed, and in the process welcome more people to the game.

East Lake Golf Club was heralded as "one of the finest in the United States" when its first holes were completed in 1907. Bobby Jones called East Lake his home course, as did Alexa Stirling, Watts Gunn, and Charlie Yates. It flourished in the early 1900s as the Atlanta Athletic Club's country club. However, as Atlanta's population shifted to the northern suburbs, East Lake suffered, and in the mid-1960s the AAC sold the property and moved to Johns Creek. In the 1990s, developer Tom Cousins stepped in to restore East Lake. Today, the historical East Lake Golf Club is again considered among the finest courses in the United States and is host to tournament play. The motto adopted at its rebirth rings true: "Golf with a Purpose."

An extremely funny illustrated book about how Coyotes affect the game of golf for amateurs. It finally explains why things go so very badly for amateur golfers as they try to master the game. Why do they hit the ball perfectly on the driving range but so pathetically on the first tee. Or why they putt so well on the practice green but exhibit all the skills of a blacksmith on the course. The illustrated Coyotes "come to life" for the reader and showcase their mischievous personalities. The book challenges the golfer to play by the Coyote Rules of Golf (CRG) and thus obtain Lower Scores, Faster Play, and More Fun.
