by Charity Joy Eleson (Author)
Wayward Home is a coming-of-age novel set in the summer of 1961 when seven-year-old Claire Johnson's idyllic life is turned upside down after her father loses his preaching job and the family's home along with it. Told through Claire's keenly observant and humorous voice, Wayward Home follows the Johnson family on a summer road-trip through America's Heartland that becomes a journey of discovery, excavating old fears, jealousies, long-buried secrets and lost dreams. It explores family dynamics through a child's voice and reveals the balm of love in the most surprising places.
Readers who are drawn to novels that explore complex themes through the eyes of young narrators, like Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, will enjoy Wayward Home.
