by Aesop (Author), Bernadette Watts (Retold by)
An Aesop fable about the value of all- great and small- retold and illustrated by the legendary European artist Bernadette Watts.
When a lion cub spares the life of a mouse, the smallest animal of all promises his friendship to the king of the jungle. The lion doubts that a mouse could ever help him... until he finds himself trapped with no way of escape. Bernadette Watts brings this well-loved fable about the value of friendship in all shapes and sizes to life in luxurious illustrations.Author Biography
Though many modern scholars dispute his existence, Aesop's life was chronicled by first century Greek historians who wrote that Aesop, or Aethiop, was born into Greek slavery in 620 B.C. Freed because of his wit and wisdom, Aesop supposedly traveled throughout Greece and was employed at various times by the governments of Athens and Corinth. Some of Aesop's most recognized fables are The Tortoise and the Hare, The Fox and the Grapes, and The Ant and the Grasshopper. His simple but effective morals are widely used and illustrated for children.
Bernadette Watts, known throughout Europe simply as Bernadette, has illustrated dozens of folk and fairy tales. Born in England, she loved to draw from childhood. She studied at the Maidstone Art School in Kent, UK, and for some time was taught by Brian Wildsmith and David Hockney. Bernadette's many beautiful books include Little Red Riding Hood and Varenka. Bernadette finds her inspiration in nature. Today she lives and works in Kent. She has been illustrating for NorthSouth Books and NordSüd Verlag since the beginning of her career.Pay with
