by Angela Funk (Author)
Five strangers. One deadly exam. No escape.
A princess exiled from her family.
A boy with everything to lose.
A politician keen on using his charm to survive.
A young woman that ran away from home.
A trained fighter forced into the exam for reasons unknown.
Expedition Overseers are considered the heroes of Hevalth, maintaining peace by locating and capturing mystical creatures and criminals. The International Exam guarantees such a title, drawing thousands of applicants every year with its promise of wealth and prestige; strong and weak, royal and commoner. Though the challenges and length of the exam are unknown, one thing remains clear: not all who take the exam live to try again.
Five of this year's aspirants, strangers to one another, each have hidden reasons to brave the perils of the exam. One seeks revenge, another power, and one merely to support his desperate family. As they struggle to survive against other competitors, mystical creatures, mysterious magic, and themselves, they discover a secret within their world that will change the course of their lives forever. For these five, the exam is more than mere glory or fame, and the future they vie for might not survive what the past has unleashed.
