by Michael McTague (Author)
The Generals Speak and Other Poems offers poems on a range of topics and points of view. Following the author's earlier poetic works, Poems From the Top of the World, and From the Edge of Europe to Yankee Stadium, this book finds its inspiration in a variety of situations. "The Generals Speak" reflects on the words of generals on the verge of historic conflicts. "A Night for Ivy" scans the environment at a sports dinner that carries political implications. "De Senectute" considers the merits of old age. "At the Last Supper" reviews the thoughts of those present at the Last Supper. "Originale" reflects on hawkers selling to tourists near Rome's Spanish Steps.
The author's preference is for shorter poems with insights into matters big and small.
As with previous works by the author, look for insight into the human heart in such additional matters as North vs. South America and Malthus's views on land. As a student of James Wright, the American poet, and others, the author seeks to please and inform readers.
