Ten million dollars. A life changing amount. Or it would have been if Sofija Zammit had been anyone else. A hardworking nurse, she has never shied away from doing the right thing. So when one of her late patients, Sandra Armitage, leaves her the majority of her estate--and all but cuts out her own two sons--suspicions are raised and the FBI quickly become involved. No one seems to believe Sofija when she says she only wants enough to pay for nurse practitioner school. No one, that is, except for Mateo Velasquez, a handsome lawyer-turned-FBI agent assigned to the case. Or at least, Mateo wants to believe in Sofija. But following his instincts has him wanting to break all the rules for the irresistible nurse. As the negative press accompanying the investigation starts doing real damage to Sofija's professional reputation, she does her own sleuthing to clear her name. Secret relationships and opposing desires, escalating threats that leave her bleeding, and the murder of a former maid at the Armitage estate raise the stakes as Sofija and Mateo put the pieces together--but will it be too late? As the negative press accompanying the investigation starts doing real damage to Sofija's professional reputation, she does her own sleuthing to clear her name. Meanwhile, Mateo struggles to stay objective in the face of his deepening feelings for Sofija. Secret relationships, escalating threats, stalking, and the eventual murder of a maid at the Armitage Estate raise the stakes as Sofija and Mateo put the pieces together-but is it too late?
