"I gather Foster has found something disagreeable in the motor car."
1926.
Norman Threlfall, a young naval lieutenant, aide to the Governor of The St Edward Islands, is attempting to explain to the Governor's wife that a headless torso (male) has been found in the back seat of the vice-regal Rolls Royce wearing nothing except very expensive French cami-knickers in pink mousseline soie.
2020.
Excavations for a spa in the grounds of the former Government House (now a luxury hotel and casino) uncover the remains of a French soldier in a locked trunk, apparently tortured to death. The discovery threatens to derail delicate post-Brexit negotiations and two civil servants, Mike and Sharon, are under increasing pressure from the PM's office to avoid by any means British culpability for the death of the French hero.
