by Betsie Morris (Author)
Duck and cover...or just sitting ducks?
Oliver, a 12-year-old student, finds himself grappling with the unsettling reality of sitting under his desk, contemplating the fragility of life. As the routine alarm echoes through the corridors, Oliver's thoughts wander, questioning the efficacy and necessity of such drills.
But what truly unfolds within the confines of a classroom during these harrowing moments? Betsie, a seasoned middle school teacher, offers a compelling glimpse into the heart of the experience. Drawing from her own encounters with numerous lockdowns, she extends an invitation for readers to join Oliver as he navigates the intricacies of a routine lockdown practice.
Through the eyes of both student and teacher, this poignant narrative sheds light on the raw emotions, fears, and unanswered questions that accompany these drills. Prepare to step into the shoes of those who must confront the unthinkable, as Oliver and his classmates grapple with the chilling possibility of becoming mere sitting ducks in a world fraught with uncertainty.
