John Witherspoon and His Times is a historical book written by James McCosh and published in 1890. The book is a biography of John Witherspoon, a prominent Scottish-American Presbyterian minister, theologian, and founding father of the United States. The book explores Witherspoon's life, his religious beliefs, and his contribution to the American Revolution. The author, James McCosh, was a Scottish philosopher and theologian who had a deep interest in the history of the Presbyterian Church. He conducted extensive research on Witherspoon's life and times, and the book is a result of his scholarly work. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which covers a different aspect of Witherspoon's life. The first chapter provides an overview of Witherspoon's early life in Scotland, his education, and his religious beliefs. The following chapters explore his journey to America, his role in the founding of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), and his involvement in the American Revolution. The book also delves into Witherspoon's political views and his impact on the development of American democracy. Witherspoon was a strong supporter of the American Revolution and believed that it was necessary to establish a new government based on the principles of democracy and individual liberty.
