by Bertrice Small (Author)
1650 - 1655, France and England.
The Protectorate of England rages on and, on her mother Jasmine's advice, Lady Autumn, youngest daughter of Jasmine and Jemmie, leaves war-torn England for France. There she hopes to find a suitable husband. With great beauty and charm, Autumn finds love with Sebastian, Marquis d'Auriville. Sadly, their time together is cut short upon Sebastian's unexpected death, leaving Autumn a widow at a very young age. Vowing to never give her heart and her love to another man, Autumn finds herself the object of many men and the attentions of not one but two kings who want Autumn for themselves on their terms...as their mistress.
Over the years following her widowhood, both Louis XIV of France and Charles II of England lust after the beautiful Autumn. With this lust and desire from powerful men, Autumn finds herself in a new world of court intrigue, betrayal and men who would use her for their own gains. Men who would even stoop to bartering her beauty for their own pleasure. But only one man from her past, the handsome and wealthy Gabriel Bainbridge, Duke of Garwood, has a chance to become Autumn's passionate destiny.
