by Laura Restrepo (Author)
-World Literature Today
The American Dream has become a nightmare, and three undocumented immigrants from Latin America find themselves trapped in it: Bolivia and her two daughters, María Paz, and Violeta. María Paz thinks her problems are solved when she marries a white, US-born policeman. Until he is murdered, and she is arrested. But her cell isn't the real hell; that, she discovers, is waiting for her outside prison, where a second death will define her fate. Hot Sur isn't as concerned with how to enter the United States illegally, but rather how to get out in time. This is a book that will keep you on the age of your seat, from the first page to the last.
