by Joseph Helgerson (Author), Nicoletta Ceccoli (Illustrator)
How can you tell if a river's under a spell? River trolls, rock trolls, blue-wing fairies--the usual suspects. The stretch of the Mississippi where Claire lives has rumors of them all, not that she's ever spotted any. But then Claire's cousin Duke takes a swim and sprouts a horn--a long, pointy, handsome thing. After that, Claire doesn't have much choice but to believe that something rivery is going on, especially since she's the only one who can help Duke lose his new addition.
Getting rid of a magical horn is one thing. Surviving a world of trolls and mischief is another. What happens when your worst enemy becomes your only hope?
- Magical Quest: Claire never believed in the magic of the Mississippi River--until her cousin Duke sprouted a rhinoceros horn right on his face.
- Modern American Folklore: Dive into a quirky adventure filled with bickering river trolls, mysterious blue-wing fairies, and the legendary Great Rock Troll, Bodacious Deepthink.
- Unlikely Heroes: She's a sensible kid. He's the bully who threw her turtle in the river. Now, they have to work together to survive.
- An Act of Kindness: There's only one cure for Duke's horn, but it requires him to do something he's never done before: a single, unselfish good deed.
