by Babby Skowyra (Author), Ethan Roffler (Illustrator)
This is a narrative poem that has been brought to life with masterful illustrations. It is a story to be shared with caregivers and their loved ones. It captures childhood memories that involve grandparents and grandchildren, childcare givers and their charges. The story showcases imaginary play and storytelling. Readers are invited to come along and join a sweet poetic adventure of lively color and childhood play. A longed-for visit of a child's favored playmate and grandma results in the building of a fantastical structure. The grandma arrives, seemingly paired with a cheery ray of sun, and is partnered with her apprentice to collaborate and create the ultimate fort. The multi-generational experience bridges the obvious age gap with the innocence and love one has for a dear, treasured grandparent. It is an adventure of brooms, blankets, and backward chairs. The grandma is equipped with fort building ideas and helps transform an ordinary living room into a fantastically charmed forest, perfect for the ultimate fort. Critters join in the whimsy and play upon quilted trees and mountains of billowy comforters. Flowers lean into the loving energy the two create, highlighting the moment with joy. The endearing engineering escapade is sure to be repeated when the grandma, the fort builder, returns. Fort Builder is a heartwarming narrative poem married with magical artistry that showcases the cherished love between "budding apprentices" and their "expert builders," reminding us imagination and play can erase all age boundaries and fortify any relationship.
