Learn about one of nature's unsung superheroes, their amazing contributions to our ecosystems, and how saving elephants means saving a lot more than you might think.
Despite their beloved status, elephants remain a threatened species, and their impact on the world around them goes far beyond their thunderous steps. This title from our Nature's (Secret) Superheroes series delves into the powerful effect elephants have on their environment. From planting trees, to bringing water to all, learn how these underappreciated gentle giants work as environmental superheroes to keep their ecosystems going strong. Did you know elephants:
- Recognize each other's faces and put their trunks around their friends to comfort them
- Have the biggest ears of any animal on the planet and use them like fans when it's hot
- Can create watering holes in dry environments to be shared by many animals
- Spread the seeds of more than 100 kinds of plants...with their poop!
The Nature's (Secret) Superheroes series--covering bats, native bees, beavers, elephants, freshwater mussels, and vultures--follows a fun superhero theme, featuring each animal's origin story, how it saves the day, and its nemeses. Each book also includes activities that allow readers to gain hands-on knowledge about these animals.
