by James Keroko (Author)
Draw Manga is the complete guide to creating your own manga characters.
Manga Japanese graphic novels and comic strip art based on line drawings of characters noted for their highly stylised facial features are among today's most popular forms of comic illustration. This book is for anyone interested in drawing manga, from beginners who want to learn the basics of drawing figures and poses to more experienced artists keen to discover the essential techniques and details that make manga art so distinct.
Each project in the book covers an element of drawing manga, including:
- Faces
- Body shapes
- Proportions
- Angles
- Expressions
- Action poses
This bite-size approach allows the reader to build up their skills and confidence before creating more ambitious drawings. The book finishes with composition ideas and how to add backgrounds, giving the reader all the tools they need to build their own manga stories.
In contrast to the majority of manga books, Draw Manga features fully illustrated step-by-step instructions for every stage of the project, so even the most novice reader will know precisely when and where each line or detail should be added.
There is also a wealth of tips and advice to help avoid common pitfalls and difficulties based on the author's years of experience tutoring manga workshops.
