by Fernanda Melchor (Author)
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION LONGLISTED FOR THE 2023 TRANSLATED LITERATURE NATIONAL BOOK AWARDS TRANSLATED FROM THE SPANISH BY SOPHIE HUGHES Fernanda Melchor's chronicles recount human degradation at its most shameful and disgusting aspects. This Is Not Miami is a devastating, eye-opening, and emotional compilation of stories that bring forth and shed light on great brutality and atrocities. She smoothly guides us through feelings that range from compassion to admiration, and harmony to the unkind. It reads as if it were written by a survivor, or an ex-convict; her judgement and discernment is unyielding. She does the ground work for us, of going to Veracruz and taking a glimpse into the lives of those men and their struggle for survival.Author Biography
