by Meg J. Lindsey (Author)
Calverous Curtaim learned a brutal lesson beneath the blade of his childhood hero: ambitious men will do anything-sacrifice anyone-to rise. Fourteen years later, Calver has embraced martyrdom as a means of redemption to those he was forced to leave behind. But first he'll have to break a monopoly on magical technology, evade a capture worse than death, and dethrone a dictator-all without succumbing to the insatiable bloodlust of his mind-djinn.
Amidst the chaos of failed plans and the search for answers, a forbidden act of compassion entwines Calver's path with Raimee: a refugee with unthinkable powers, no control over them, and a total thing for him. As he tries to claw back control over his failing redemption, Calver plunges into a conspiracy far deeper than he imagined, while rekindling a hope for revolution... without war. At a crossroads of duty and destiny, he faces down the harrowing decision he never thought he'd make: choosing to stay alive.
A Distortion of Fate is the first installment in the Tapestry saga, a dark, political sci-fantasy reminiscent of Arcane and The Lies of Locke Lamora. Woven across four perspectives and a dozen timelines, Lindsey's debut examines the motivations of mortals and the things worth saving as it barrels towards a deadly climax.
