by George Rose (Author)
There have been over 15,000 players in the game of Major League Baseball since its beginning in the 1800's. In One Hit Wonders, George Rose introduces you to a very small group of these players. They belong to a club whose membership only numbers about 200, more select than even the Baseball Hall of Fame. It is the One Hit Wonders Club--former Major Leaguers who have had one, and only one, big league hit.
Rose takes you through the sometimes uplifting, often heartbreaking, but always fascinating tales of 75 members of this club. The hits are as varied as the players themselves, from routine singles in April to a game-winning home run in the middle of a pennant race. Meet six-figure bonus babies and thirty-something veterans trying to hang on to their dream as Rose leads you on a journey through eight decades of baseball history, through the eyes of the players who lived them. Their struggles, triumphs, and experiences--both on and off the field--will leave you inspired to keep swinging in life until you, too, get your own hit.
